Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski Sets New MLB Record For 100 MPH Pitches

To most pitchers, throwing pitches at 100 mph is an incredible feat. For Milwaukee Brewers phenom Jacob Misiorowski, 100 mph is now the norm. On Monday, The Miz added an impressive MLB record to his resume, once again proving he is the hardest-throwing pitcher in the league.

The 24-year-old flamethrower picked up his fifth win of the season against the St. Louis Cardinals, racking up 12 strikeouts and allowing just a pair of hits across 7.0 innings. After yet another dominant performance for Misiorowski, his season stats now sit at an ERA of 1.83 and a WHIP of 0.83. With the 12 punchouts on Monday, he also became the first pitcher in the major leagues to hit 100 strikeouts this season.

But even more impressive than the number of strikeouts is how Misiorowski is doing it. He is routinely hitting over 100 mph on the radar gun, and in a recent interview for Mookie Betts' On Base Podcast, said he is determined to hit 105 mph.

On Monday, Misiorowski threw 57 of his 96 pitches at a speed of 100 mph or more, the most in a single game since MLB started pitch tracking in 2008. On 40 of those 57 pitches, Misiorowski hit 101 mph; on 22, he hit 102 mph, and nine pitches hit 103 mph or higher. His top speed for the day hit 103.4 mph, which he did three times.

Before Misiorowski's effort on Monday, the previous record was set by Hunter Greene of the Cincinnati Reds. Greene threw 47 pitches of at least 100 mph on September 17th, 2022, a game that also happened to victimize the St. Louis Cardinals. Both Misiorowski and Greene struck out nine batters each with pitches of 100 mph or higher, also an MLB record.

As of now, Misiorowski's next start is lined up against the Houston Astros on the road this weekend.
