Surprise Suitor Emerges for Milan Momcilovic: Report

The deadline to withdraw from the NBA draft is Wednesday, and the name drawing the most attention in college basketball is former Iowa State Cyclones forward Milan Momcilovic.

Momcilovic could become one of the highest-paid college athletes in the sport next season if he chooses to return, which currently appears to be the most likely outcome as he continues to cancel NBA workouts.

At the moment, reports have the Kentucky Wildcats as the leading landing spot for the 6-foot-8 forward. However, according to The Field of 68's Jeff Goodman, a surprise contender is now emerging in the mix: the Arizona Wildcats.

"The team trying to gain ground, per my sources, is Arizona," Goodman reported Tuesday. "And a big part of that is they believe they're going to lose Koa Peat."

Arizona, led by head coach Tommy Lloyd, is coming off a Final Four appearance and is expected to undergo roster changes, including the potential departure of Koa Peat, which is why a player like Momcilovic could be a major addition to a team aiming to compete for national championships.

Last season, Momcilovic averaged 16.9 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 50.6% from the field and an impressive 48.7% from three-point range.

His best attribute is his ability to function as a high-usage, three-level scorer who can get to the rim when needed, while also creating and making his own shot from virtually anywhere on the floor thanks to his length and offensive versatility.
