Victor Wembanyama Faces Punishment for What He Did After Game 5

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama could face punishment for what he did after suffering a 127-114 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.

The former No. 1 overall pick packed his bags and walked right past a stream of reporters and out of the arena, skirting his duties of talking with reporters following the game. The Athletic’s Sam Amick revealed the league now has a choice to make regarding the Spurs star.

“What's more, league officials must now decide how to respond to his choice, which was a serious break from the league's norm for its star players and Wembanyama's typical media decorum,” Amick said.

“This season, in fact, Wembanyama was voted the most media-friendly player in the game by the Professional Basketball Writers Association,” he added. “In addition to the scrutiny his decision invites, the fact that Wembanyama ducked media duties after such a high-profile game is likely to factor into the league's decision about whether to issue him a fine.”

The Spurs star suffered his worst game of the series and the worst playoff game of his young career in the loss, but his actions after the game could cost him a sizable penny if the league decides to take action.

Game 6 between the Spurs and Thunder tips off on Thursday, May 28.
