Knicks Fans React To President Trump's Interest In NBA Finals
President Donald Trump was calling New York City his home long before the White House and he remains a New York sports fan to this day. With the New York Knicks primed to win their first NBA title since he was in his 20s, he's reportedly considering showing up to Madison Square Garden to watch them.
The New York Times reported that Trump is "considering" an appearance at the NBA Finals, specifically at MSG rather than in Oklahoma City, where he would get an overwhelmingly warm reception. The outlet pointed out that he is still a Knicks fan despite not attending any of their games in recent years.
Given that New York City's new Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently won by a firm margin and largely opposed Trump on every level, it's pretty clear that a wide swath of New Yorkers would protest Trump's presence at the Garden.
Fans Weigh In
It really doesn't take a political scientist or a sports expert to realize that he would probably get booed in New York City.
"He gonna get his skin booed off. His advisors better tell him stay in Washington," one user remarked.
"I would actually love for him to attend because he would get boo'd out of the building even more than when he was boo'd at the Commanders' game," wrote another.
"He would be booed out of the arena and it would be magical!" a third wrote.
"Nobody wants him in the Garden. The Knicks don't need any sort of jinx."
"Optimal seating arrangement is Trump courtside between Zohran and Rubio, with Kylie and Chalamet a few seats away and Spike Lee wedged between two Secret Service agents on opposite end of the floor."
"Please no. He will curse the team with his presence."
The Venn diagram of New York voters and New York sports fans is far from a perfect circle. The reaction on social media would indicate that he isn't welcome at the Garden, but they don't speak for everyone who will be there.
And it is all just speculation that he'd even go to the games in the first place.
