Reports of downed power lines, lightning-caused blazes in Grant Co.

May 28-MOSES LAKE - At around 8:20 p.m. a storm rolled into Moses Lake causing power lines and trees to go down and several small lighting-cause blazes, according to Grant County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman.

"Please call 911 if you see a downed power line. Do not approach it and do not try to pick it up yourself," Foreman said.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office released a NIXLE alert, saying the National Weather Service in Spokane has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Grant County until 10 p.m.

"Stay indoors and avoid driving if possible," reads the alert. "Severe lightening and rain."

The Adams County Sheriff's Office released a similar statement.

At 9 p.m., Grant County Fire District 5 was responding to several fire calls throughout Moses Lake, including a wildland fire on Wheeler, according to radio traffic.

The district was checking several areas for downed power lines at that time, according to radio traffic. At 9:15 it was reported the stoplight was down at state Route 17 and Wheeler Road, according to radio traffic.

At 9:15, Grant County Fire District 7 reported a fire in Soap Lake.
