Pep Guardiola Reportedly Favors One Specific International Job for Future

Guardiola spent a decade at Manchester City and left with 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and a domestic cup double in his final 2025-26 season. For a manager who has won over 35 career titles, stepping away from the sideline entirely seems like a stretch and most people in soccer would agree.

For now, he's moving into a role as a global ambassador for the City Football Group. It's a comfortable landing spot after an emotional farewell from the club. But the bigger question is what comes after that.

Pep Guardiola and the England Job

No official announcement has been made, but speculation around his next move is already building. According to Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail, Guardiola has privately told people close to him that the England national team job is one he'd consider if the opportunity came around.

Gaughan laid out what he's been hearing from those in Guardiola's circle.

"I don't think we'll see him in club management, although he is prone to changing his mind quite hastily," Gaughan said. "There was an Instagram post from his eldest daughter the other day, while he was doing his send-offs at the Co-op Live and through the streets of Manchester."

"She wasn't just talking about City, she was talking about football in the past tense, which very much read like a retirement letter to me. But he has told friends that he would fancy England in the future, so if things were to align that would be something to look out for." he added.

Thomas Tuchel is currently under contract with England through Euro 2028 so there's no vacancy. But some of his recent decisions have drawn attention, particularly leaving Phil Foden and Cole Palmer out of England's 2026 World Cup squad.

How England performs this summer will shape a lot of the conversation around the national team job.

Guardiola has previously spoken about wanting to compete at a World Cup. If England disappoints and the FA starts looking at options, his reported interest will be difficult to overlook.
