Toutle Lake baseball places 3rd at state

Toutle Lake baseball beat Northwest Christian 6-3 in the 2B State Baseball Tournament consolation finals on Saturday at Carlon Park in Selah to take third place at state.

With the game tied at 2-2 after five innings, Toutle Lake pulled ahead after scoring 4 runs in the sixth. Ryan Kilponen hit a 2-run double before Easton White hit an RBI double. Josh Hanson then hit an RBI single shortly after. NW Christian scored 1 run in the bottom of the frame, left two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh.

Behind 2-0 after two innings, the Ducks tied the game with 2 runs in the top of the third. Dominic Rivera hit an RBI single before Timber Buker came home to score another run.

Toutle Lake baseball: Easton White

Buker, Rivera, and Jakob Gorley each finished with two hits for Toutle Lake. Owen Foster also tallied a hit.

Rivera pitched for four innings, striking out five batters while giving away four hits and 0 earned runs. Baylee Webb gave up just one hit in three innings of work on the mound.

On Friday, the Ducks faced off against the eventual state champion Napavine in the state semifinals and fell 6-5 in a heartbreaker. Toutle Lake led 5-1 after six innings, but the Tigers scored 4 runs to tie the game in the seventh to force extra innings. They then hit a walk-off single to win it in the bottom of the eighth.

The Ducks took the lead in the top of the third on an RBI single from Buker. Rivera then hit an RBI grounder to put them up 2-0. Toutle Lake then added 3 runs in the top of the fifth as Rivera hit an RBI double, White scored on an error caused by contact from Hanson, and Rivera scored on an error. Napavine got on the board in the bottom of the frame to make it 5-1.

Owen Foster also had a double while Kilponen, White, and Hanson each hit singles. Hanson took the loss in 6 1/3 innings of work on the mound. He struck out two while giving away four hits and 2 earned runs.

Toutle Lake finished the season with a 21-7 overall record.
