Dodgers' Dave Roberts Reveals Shohei Ohtani Plan for Wednesday
Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani has been having an incredible season at the plate and an even better one on the mound in 2026.
Through the Dodgers' first 59 games of the year, Ohtani has put up a slash line of .280/.402/.493 in the batter's box with an OPS of .894, totaling 10 home runs and 31 RBIs. He's also stolen six bases and drawn 39 walks.
While he has batted well, his play on the bump has been even more outstanding. In nine starts, he has a record of 5-2, pitching to a 0.82 ERA with 61 strikeouts and 17 walks in 55 innings.
Ohtani had some uncharacteristic struggles at the plate to start the season, and manager Dave Roberts tried to combat this by giving the four-time MVP the days off from hitting when he was pitching.
However, he has been in the lineup in his past two outings on the mound. On Monday, Roberts announced that he will be continuing this in Ohtani's next start.
"Shohei Ohtani will once again hit when he makes his next pitching start on Wednesday, Dave Roberts said," according to California Post reporter Jack Harris.

In the five times he has hit and pitched on the same day in 2026, he has gone 3-for-18 at the plate with two home runs, including a leadoff homer in his last outing, in which he threw six hitless innings.
Ohtani's start on Wednesday will be in the third of a four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It is scheduled to start at 9:40 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on MLB Network.
