Ben Johnson Was Asked About Caleb Williams Landing Madden Cover

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was revealed as the cover athlete for EA Sports' Madden NFL 27 today. And while the reactions to his look on the covers was mixed, Williams' head coach might have had the most interesting reaction of all.

Or lack thereof.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Bears head coach Ben Johnson was asked to weigh in on Williams' look on the new cover. His two word response was reportedly "No reaction."

Nothing says everything

NFL fans had a lot of thoughts on what Johnson's remark might have meant. Some wondered if he's aware of the dreaded "Madden Curse" and is now lamenting that his season is likely doomed.

"Cancel your playoff plans. Madden curse incoming plus the Bears have the league's hardest schedule," one user declared on X.

"Even Ben Johnson is disappointed with the Madden cover choice," another joked.

"Dude knows the cover curse and he's fuming," a third wrote.

Last year Caleb Williams had his breakout campaign, leading them to an 11-6 record and their first playoff win in 15 years with a victory over the rival Green Bay Packers.

Williams cut his sack rate more than half, going down just 24 times in 2025 after getting taken down a league-leading 68 times the year before. And while Williams' accuracy took a little dip, he had a significantly higher touchdown rate, throwing for 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns with just seven interceptions.

He's not quite on the same level as the best quarterbacks in the league just yet, but he might get there this year (as long as the Madden Curse doesn't get him first).
