Chase Elliott Reveals What He Told Christopher Bell After Scary Wreck at Michigan

Before taking a ride to the infield care center, Chase Elliott wanted to make sure that Christopher Bell was alright, and the two talked things over with their helmets still on. This was one of the most violent wrecks you will see all year long.

No one wants to cause a wreck, and especially not one that leads to such an impact as this. Christopher Bell took the worst of the exchange as the two drivers went to the outside wall. It even led to a red flag as the SAFER barrier required repairs.

This is one of the many reasons why Elliott fans love their driver so much. A fierce competitor, but he often sees the bigger picture. Great move from both drivers to talk things over in a mature way. Bell spent a longer period of time in the care center than Elliott, but both were released after being checked on.

"Yeah I'm fine," Elliott said when asked. "Totally my fault, I feel really bad for Bell. Just uh, yeah taking him out, I was just trying to run in the bottom and kind of make use of our fresh tires and trying to at least get to second, I was hoping, or hopefully even stay side-by-side with him.

"But yeah got in there, got free and thought I was going to spin and was kinda committing to spinning out, and as soon as I started to commit to spinning, it just hooked up and hooked it right and unfortunately sent Christopher in the wall super hard and me shortly there behind. Just racing really hard. I felt like that was kind of a turning point in the race, we needed to make something happen and stepped over the line again and paid for it."

Chase Elliott was then asked what he said to Christopher Bell. Obviously, since he is taking the blame, he apologized for the wreck.

"I just told him I'm sorry. Obviously it was not on purpose"," Elliott said on Prime Video. "But I knew that was a big hit for both of us. I think he took the brunt of it, honestly. Probably two really big hits and just uh, I have a lot of respect for Bell and we always race each other with a lot of respect I feel like on track. Not that you want that to happen to anyone, but certainly just knew it was the big one and it was nothing intentional, just stepped over the line. I'm glad he was alright."

A violent wreck for Bell and Elliott. It left many fans wondering what would have happened 20, 25, even 30 years ago. Thankfully, the SAFER barrier is a thing and did exactly what it was designed to do.
