Paige Spiranac Admits To Following Controversial 'Rule' On Golf Course
When on the golf course, do you give putts?
For those unfamiliar, when you're playing a round of golf, it can be common to "give" someone a putt, if it's from a certain distance. It can help speed up the round. However, it's often a controversial topic.
How long is the appropriate distance to give a putt? Under what circumstances should putts not be given? If you are "given" several putts during a round, does that score count as legitimate?
Paige Spiranac has taken her stance.
Paige Spiranac made it clear that she both gives putts and expects them to be given to her, as well.
"The only problem is I do in fact give putts and expect them to be given to me ;) lol," she wrote.
When to 'give' or 'not give' a putt
PGA Tour star Viktor Hovland has weighed in.
"I would say I'm fair," he told golf.com. "If it's a tap-in, I'm going to give those putts. But if there's a chance the other person is going to miss it, then yeah, I'm going to have him putt it out. That's what we do normally in a stroke-play event. If the other person takes that the wrong way, then so be it."
However, according to golf.com, there are five times when you should not give someone a putt:
- When you don't think your opponent will make it
- When your opponent asks to be given it
- If it's to win the hole
- If they've just hit an awesome shot
- If you've already given lots of putts
Where do you stand on the issue? Weigh in on whether or not you should be giving out a ton of putts during a round in the comment section below.
It's a hot button issue heading into the summer.
