Caitlin Clark Reveals Her Major Wish for Knicks-Spurs in NBA Finals

Caitlin Clark captivated the basketball world just a few years ago during her impressive scoring surge in the NCAA to claim the all-time points record in a college career for men or women.

She became the biggest story in basketball, and the hype followed her as she later became the No. 1 pick for the Indiana Fever, giving the WNBA a massive boost in ticket and merchandise sales, game viewership, and more.

Clark continues to attract attention, both criticism and praise, for her basketball skills since joining the professional league, including her poor shooting in last night’s loss to the New York Liberty.

She’s also fully aware that the New York Knicks are attracting a lot of attention right now, as excitement has overtaken the city, with fans bracing for their team to claim the Knicks’ first championship since 1973.

With Clark already in New York City to play the Liberty, a reporter asked for her thoughts on the NBA Finals, to which Clark said she has one wish for the Knicks and San Antonio Spurs.

“I’m a fan of basketball, so I love great games. I don’t want the Knicks to sweep it. I’m kind of indifferent on who wins, but I’m just such a basketball fan that I would love to see it go to seven games, just because I think it’s been such a great series,” she said before Saturday night’s Liberty game.

She also mentioned that she can “absorb” a lot from watching NBA games, including the Spurs’ defeat of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, 4-3.

Regarding the “Knicksmania” that currently rules New York City, she said she joked with teammate Lexi Hull that they should go outside Madison Square Garden after the Knicks’ recent win to experience the fan excitement.

“I always want to see those people … where they’re like jumping around on each other and climbing light poles. I feel like that would be the experience. I don’t know if my security guy would let me do that, but I want to. I want to experience that, because those Knicks fans are, they’re so passionate and crazy. I admire it. It’s pretty awesome,” Clark said.

Clark may be able to learn from watching the two teams play, including Jalen Brunson’s leadership as a Knicks guard and the Knicks’ unity in playing team basketball.

The Spurs, while young, also feature a lot of talent, including Victor Wembanyama, a former No. 1 pick from France, who is under the spotlight and pressure of trying to win as a player already being hyped as the league’s next great superstar. He reached the NBA Finals in just his third season, immediately bringing up conversation about his future greatness in the league.

That’s very similar to the hype and pressure that Clark may be carrying in her third season of the WNBA. However, her squad nearly reached the championship series without her last season and will hope to return to the postseason and compete for the WNBA championship since she is healthy and on the court.

Clark definitely has some wishful thinking about the NBA Finals, though, as the Knicks can sweep the Spurs by winning the next two games in New York. For the series to go a full seven games, the Spurs need to step things up, since they lost the first two games of the NBA Finals on their home court.

Game 3 between the Knicks and Spurs arrives Monday at 8:30 p.m. ET. Clark and the Fever also play Monday night, visiting the Washington Mystics at 8 p.m. ET.
