F1 Power Rankings: Who's the Favorite Heading Into Spanish GP?

Monaco may have crowned its winner, but Formula 1's attention has already shifted to Barcelona, where the competitive order could face its next major test.

The Spanish Grand Prix has traditionally been one of the clearest indicators of a car's true pace. Unlike Monaco's unique street circuit, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya exposes every weakness, from aerodynamic efficiency to tire management. With the championship battle beginning to take shape, Spain offers a crucial opportunity for contenders to either strengthen their position or lose ground.

Kimi Antonelli has been putting on a masterclass in 2026, and the Formula 1 paddock now heads to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for Round 7 with the young Italian firmly in command of the championship.

Antonelli's five successive wins have given him a 66-point lead at the top of the Drivers' Championship, and there's little sign of anyone slowing him down. Barcelona is historically a circuit that rewards the most complete package on the grid, and right now, that package belongs to Mercedes.

Here are the power rankings heading into Spanish GP.

5. Lando Norris

McLaren enters Spain searching for answers. Norris endured a difficult Monaco weekend that included qualifying struggles and reliability concerns. However, Barcelona's characteristics should be more favorable to the McLaren package, making this a critical race for the reigning world champion's title hopes.

4. Max Verstappen

Writing off Verstappen is rarely a wise decision. While Red Bull has lacked the dominance it once enjoyed, the Dutchman remains one of the most complete drivers on the grid. Barcelona's more conventional layout could allow Red Bull to recover from a frustrating Monaco weekend and rejoin the fight for victories.

3. Charles Leclerc

Leclerc may not have secured the Monaco result he wanted, but Ferrari's overall trajectory remains positive. The Monegasque driver topped practice sessions during the Monaco weekend and continues to show the outright speed needed to challenge at the front. If Ferrari unlocks a little more race pace, Leclerc could emerge as Antonelli's biggest challenger in Spain.

2. Lewis Hamilton

Hamilton's transition to Ferrari appears to be gathering momentum. The seven-time world champion finished second in Monaco and has consistently extracted strong results from the SF26. Ferrari's pace has improved noticeably in recent rounds, and Barcelona's high-speed corners could suit the Scuderia package. Another podium would not be a surprise.

1. Kimi Antonelli

Until someone proves otherwise, Antonelli remains the driver to beat. The Mercedes sensation arrives in Spain fresh off a historic Monaco victory and has now won five consecutive races. He also holds a commanding lead in the championship and continues to deliver under pressure regardless of circuit type. Monaco GP was expected to expose any weaknesses in the rookie's armor. Instead, he claimed pole position and converted it into another victory.

Russell's recent results have not reflected his pace, but the Mercedes driver remains capable of fighting at the sharp end. If Mercedes continues its strong form, don't be surprised if he becomes a serious contender for victory.

Heading into Barcelona, Antonelli remains the clear favorite. Mercedes possesses the fastest overall package, and the Italian rookie is driving with the confidence of a champion. Ferrari appears to be the closest challenger, while Verstappen and Norris desperately need a strong weekend to keep themselves firmly in the title conversation.
