Angel Reese Gets Full-on Tackled vs Tempo - Then Gets Last Laugh
The Atlanta Dream sent two first-round draft picks to the Chicago Sky in exchange for All-Star forward Angel Reese in April.
Reese has rewarded the Dream in spades through the team’s first 13 games of the 2026 WNBA season. The 2024 seventh overall pick has recorded a double-double in each of the last five games, and the Dream are 8-1 when Reese rebounds in double digits this season, per StatMuse.
Reese’s most recent double-double was perhaps her most hard-earned yet, as she was in a heated battle with Toronto Tempo forward Izzy Harrison.
It came to a head when Harrison tackled Reese from behind, dragging her to the floor, in the third quarter of the Dream’s matchup with the Tempo in Toronto on June 14. Harrison was assessed a Flagrant 2 foul, and Reese became emotional.
The Dream and Reese got the last laugh, as the Dream won, 102-77, and Reese put up 15 points and 17 rebounds. Atlanta improved to 9-4 (4-2 in WNBA Commissioner’s Cup play) and the Tempo dropped to 7-7 (2-3).
Dream head coach Karl Smesko raved about Reese in his postgame press conference.
“You feel good about taking the shot when you know, if you miss it, your teammate is gonna clean it up for you,” Smesko said. “That third quarter, in particular, and early fourth, I mean, she was just relentless on the boards - offensive boards. Just getting in position, grabbing it, putting it back in, just a great job by her to get us extra possessions.”
Back-to-back matchups with the Indiana Fever - first in Indianapolis on June 18, then in Atlanta on June 20 - are next on the Dream’s schedule.
