Phillies Announce Alec Bohm News After Removal From Lineup

Philadelphia Philliesthird baseman Alec Bohm has turned his season around. After an abysmal start to the year, he has been one of the best hitters on the Phillies since the start of May.

Across his last 38 appearances, Bohm has posted a .270 batting average, .318 on-base percentage, .779 OPS, seven home runs and 21 RBIs.

If not for this recent stretch, his job may have been in jeopardy at the hot corner. It remains unclear whether Bohm will stay with the Phillies long-term, as he is set to become an unrestricted free agent next winter. However, he is making his case that he belongs.

His individual efforts have helped the Phillies improve to a 38-33 record entering Monday's series opener against the Miami Marlins.

However, ahead of Monday's opener, Bohm was not present in the starting lineup. Instead, Edmundo Sosa drew the start at third base, hitting ninth.

Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly spoke with reporters ahead of the game and provided the reason for Bohm's absence. Mattingly shared that Bohm is "healthy, but banged up." He also added that Bohm is feeling discomfort in his hip, hamstring and shoulder, though the team still expects him back in the lineup Tuesday.

The Phillies have the depth to withstand a one-game absence from Bohm, and it makes sense not to push him with plenty of games left this season.

Bohm received a positive update on Monday with MLB releasing the All-Star Game voting results for the first round.

He currently sits second among National League third basemen, trailing only Max Muncy of the Los Angeles Dodgers, putting him on pace to advance to Phase 2. There, he will hope to earn his second career All-Star selection and play in front of home fans, with this year's event taking place at Citizens Bank Park.

With both his bat and his All-Star case heating up at the same time, Bohm has given Phillies fans plenty of reason to feel good about the direction his season is heading.
