England defender Tino Livramento ruled out of 2026 World Cup

June 16 (UPI) -- England defender Tino Livramento will not play in the 2026 World Cup due to a calf injury he sustained in training, the team announced Tuesday.

The Newcastle defender sustained the injury during a session Sunday in Kansas City, Mo.

England called up Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah to replace Livramento on the 26-man roster. The Three Lions said Chalobah will travel to their base camp while his teammates head to Dallas for their World Cup opener.

World Cup teams are allowed to replace an outfield player up to 24 hours before their first game of the tournament. Dan Burn, Marc Guehi, Reece James, Ezri Konsa, Nico O'Reilly, Jerell Quansah, Djed Spence and John Stones are the other defenders on the Three Lions' roster.

No. 4 England will take on No. 11 Croatia in a Group L match at 4 p.m. EDT Wednesday in Arlington, Texas. The Three Lions will face No. 73 Ghana in their second group stage match June 23 in Foxborough, Mass.

They will meet No. 34 Panama in their group stage finale June 27 in East Rutherford, N.J.
