ESPN Has Officially Set Its 'Women's Sports Sundays' Lineup
With the NBA and NFL currently in offseason mode, ESPN is shifting its focus over to "Women's Sports Sundays" this summer.
ESPN announced its "Women's Sports Sundays" initiative back in February. The network said it'll shine the spotlight on the WNBA and National Women's Soccer League from late June to mid-August.
"Women's sports are experiencing continued momentum, and Women's Sports Sundays is ESPN's next step in meeting that demand," said Rosalyn Durant, ESPN's executive vice president of programming and acquisitions. "This franchise is about more than showcasing games - it's about building a consistent, high-profile destination that reflects the passion, excellence and cultural impact of women's sports today, while giving athletes and leagues the stage they deserve."
Well, ESPN has officially unveiled its full schedule for Women's Sports Sundays. Things will get started on June 21 with the New York Liberty and Los Angeles Sparks.
The full schedule from ESPN can be seen here.
The WNBA has a golden opportunity to expand.
Though it's not a huge surprise, ESPN's press release stated that Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream, and A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces will be featured on "Women's Sports Sundays."
ESPN is also expected to shine the spotlight on U.S. women's soccer star Trinity Rodman and the Washington Spirit.
Time will tell if "Women's Sports Sundays" end up being a huge success for ESPN.
