7 Potential Landing Spots for Brendan Sorsby in the NFL Supplemental Draft
Brendan Sorsby's offseason football saga has gone through a transfer from Cincinnati to Texas Tech, to revelations of gambling violations during his time with the Bearcats, to being ruled ineligible by the NCAA, to having that ruling thrown out by the courts.
But after swift an severe backlash throughout the Big 12 and college football at large, Sorsby is now headed for the NFL Supplemental Draft.
The gambling scandal obviously adds a layer of uncertainty to how NFL teams will perceive his value, but as a player, Sorsby could have played his way into first-round consideration with a strong 2026 campaign with the Red Raiders. Now, he'll have to see which team will be willing to take a chance on him with a supplemental draft pick next month.
There's no shortage of quarterback-needy teams across the league, and these franchises could all be interested in adding him to their future plans at the position:
New York Jets
The Jets brought back Geno Smith as their veteran bridge starter for the short-term, and spent a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Clemson's Cade Klubnik. Neither should prevent them from taking a swing on Sorsby, who wouldn't have any immediate pressure to start with Smith in the building, and would have carried a higher predraft grade from me this year compared to Klubnik. New York has added some solid young weapons to their offense over the past few years, which would give a young quarterback like Sorsby plenty of help whenever he's ready to assume the starting role.
Arizona Cardinals
This quarterback situation is messy, from a contract squabble with veteran incumbent starter Jacoby Brissett, to overdrafting Miami's Carson Beck with an early third-round pick back in April. Neither option is particularly encouraging in terms of long-term ceiling at the position, and Sorsby would immediately check that box. While Brissett continues to push for more money, Arizona could bring in Sorsby to compete with Beck right away, with the upside to push for the starting job if the Cards don't want to meet Brissett's demands for a raise.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Aaron Rodgers has confirmed that this will be the final season of his Hall of Fame career, and while the Steelers have invested a pick in each of the past two drafts at the position, Will Howard and Drew Allar shouldn't cause them to pass on Sorsby's talent. You can never have too many capable quarterbacks on your roster, and while Sorsby still needs some development, he looked way closer to an NFL-ready product than Allar did last year, and he's got more upside than Howard brings to the table. He could sit behind Rodgers this year, and take the reins in 2027 with some young depth behind him.
Indianapolis Colts
Indy is hoping for Daniel Jones to be the player he was through the first half of last season, when they were rolling at 9-0, and before Jones suffered a torn Achilles tendon. That seems unlikely, and the Colts are already overpaying ($44 million per year) for the level of play Jones typically brings to the table. Anthony Richardson is still on the roster, but he's still far more upside than sure thing at this point, and shouldn't keep the Colts from pursuing another talented quarterback. Bringing Sorsby in to compete with Richardson for the backup job while giving them more future potential under center could be an ideal scenario.
Atlanta Falcons
There's still hope that Michael Penix Jr. can stay healthy and live up to his lofty potential, but the regime that drafted him is no longer in the building, so they won't be shy about moving on from him if that doesn't happen. Tua Tagovailoa is a veteran lottery ticket with the boom-or-bust tag, but any long-term success there would be a bonus after his recent play in Miami. Why not add Sorsby to the mix, with no immediate pressure, but simply the opportunity to learn from the experience and leadership that the rest of the Falcons' quarterback room brings to the table?
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers have seen flashes of the brilliance that made Bryce Young a Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 overall pick, but they're still waiting for him to be that player consistently, and he's running out of time to prove he's worthy of a hefty long-term investment. Bringing in Sorsby could give Carolina an insurance policy if Young still can't find that week-to-week level of performance that matches his draft slot, or at least delivers the kind of play the team will feel comfortable about rewarding with a massive payday in advance of his rookie deal running out.
Cleveland Browns
This feels unlikely, given the amount of young quarterbacks already on this roster, but with this franchise, nothing is out of the question. The Browns still appear to be hoping they can get some kind of positive return on the Deshaun Watson debacle, while investing three picks over the past two drafts on quarterbacks (Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel in 2025, Taylen Green in 2026). There's a ton of potential among that trio, but Sanders is the only one who has proven anything at the pro level to this point. If the Browns just want to keep stacking upside at the position, it wouldn't be shocking if they did so by adding Sorsby to the mix.
