Police Release Statement on Death at Madison Square Garden Sunday
In the same week that the New York Knicks celebrated their first NBA championship in more than 50 years, tragedy struck Madison Square Garden this weekend.
A man attending a concert at the popular New York City sports arena fell to his death this weekend, according to a statement from New York Police.
The man was attending a concert for the rock band "Goose." He was reportedly attending the concert with his wife. Tragically, he reportedly fell from a balcony inside of Madison Square Garden. The man was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
New York Police released a statement, confirming the tragedy.
"The NYPD says officers responded to a 911 call for an injured male inside the arena. They say a 51-year-old man was unconscious and unresponsive 'with injuries indicative of falling from an elevated position,'" ABC News reported.
"The man was later pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital. Police say they are still investigating how the incident unfolded. They say the victim was with his wife when he apparently fell."
Rock band confirms the tragedy, as well
The rock band "Goose" confirmed the tragedy, as well.
"We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the tragic event that occurred at tonight's show. We extend our deepest sympathy to everyone affected," Goose posted on Instagram. "Thank you to the emergency personnel and venue staff who stepped in with care and support."
May the fan rest in peace. An investigation into the tragedy is underway, too.
