Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Receives Good News Before Astros Game
Toronto Blue Jaysfirst basemanVladimir Guerrero Jr. has not quite lived up to expectations this year. The 27-year-old superstar is in year one of his massive 14-year, $500 million contract.
He earned that deal given how dominant he has been across his eight-year career as a five-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger and Gold Glove award winner. However, his performance on the field simply has not justified that contract this year.
Across 73 games, he has posted a .279 batting average, .365 on-base percentage, .735 OPS, four home runs and 31 RBIs. After his dominant postseason run in 2025, that same success has not translated so far this year.
Despite the mediocre numbers, Guerrero is clearly capable of heating up at any given moment and turning this season around. And he definitely has the support of his team and its fans.
The Blue Jays announced an All-Star Game voting update Monday, and plenty of the team will be recognized at this year's game.
That could include Guerrero. He still leads all American League first basemen in voting, with New York Yankees first baseman Ben Rice being the closest to catching him. Guerrero currently holds 1,485,461 total votes and is on pace to advance to Phase 2.

Regardless of whether Guerrero is truly deserving of making it this year based on his numbers alone, it is still a meaningful accomplishment and a testament to the player he has been throughout his career.
It is also a reminder of the player the Blue Jays are counting on him to be for the next decade.
Despite the individual recognition, Guerrero's goal remains leading the Blue Jays back to the World Series this year, where the hope is they finish the job and bring a championship home to Toronto.
