Kenneth Walker III Gives Mahomes a Running Attack he has Never had Before
Kenneth Walker III was the Super Bowl LX MVP for the Seattle Seahawks before joining the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent during the offseason. Walker signed a three-year deal for up to $45 million. Besides being one of the biggest free agents to change teams, Walker is expected to elevate the Chiefs' offense dramatically, specifically in their run game.
Following his signing, we wrote in our Chiefs season preview Walker is elite at forcing missed tackles and creating chunk plays, which are runs of 10-plus yards. This type of player is exactly what the Chiefs needed after a disappointing 2025 season.
Are Kenneth Walker III and Eric Bieniemy the new dynamic duo for Kansas City?
The arrival of Walker, coupled with the return of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, could turn the Chiefs' offense around dramatically this upcoming season. Bieniemy hasn't been with Kansas City for three years, but in his first five years with the team, his offense was ranked in the top five for passing yards each season (2018-2022). As the running backs coach with the Chicago Bears in the 2025 season, Bieniemy made a substantial impact on their running attack. Imagine what he could do back with Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid and now Walker.
Bieniemy can expect Walker to elevate the run attack and possibly expand his role by catching passes as well. As Walker did for Seattle, he can keep opponent defenses honest and support Patrick Mahomes in the run-game, as the quarterback has never had before in his time with the Chiefs.
Is another Super Bowl ring in the works for Walker and the Chiefs?
Walker is expected to make a significant change in the Kansas City offense, and has the rankings to prove it. ESPN ranked Walker No.9 in the top ten running backs for 2026. In his four years as a Seahawk, Walker had 3,555 rushing yards and 1,005 receiving yards. His performance in the 2025 season earned him a spot in the rankings, especially after he was named the Super Bowl MVP, making him the first player to receive the honor and switch teams since Dexter Jackson with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003.
As training camp approaches, it will be interesting to see how Bieniemy and Reid utilize Walker's skills and how he works with Mahomes, despite the quarterback's injury. Now, with a team hungry to get back in the Super Bowl running, hopefully the reigning MVP can help get them there.
