Only $5 for a round of golf?
It’s available for youth golfers ages 6 to 18 at a growing number of courses across Washington.
WA Golf’s Youth on Course program has expanded to 86 golf courses statewide, becoming one of the state’s largest youth sports programs. Participation is surging, with over 16,000 golfers enrolled and 65,000 rounds played in 2025. The program began with 300 youth in 2016.
WA Golf Youth on Course memberships are $25 per year and include an official USGA GHIN Handicap Index, along with access to the GHIN mobile app and eligibility to play in WA Golf events, its website said. Memberships unlock $5 rounds at 86 courses and are active for one year from the purchase date.
Participating golf courses in Pierce County include:
- Allenmore Golf Course, Tacoma
- Cedar Irons Golf Course, Tacoma
- Chambers Bay, University Place
- Eagle’s Pride Golf Course, DuPont
- Highlands Golf Course, Tacoma
- Lake Spanaway Golf Course, Tacoma
- Meadow Park Golf Course, Tacoma
- The Home Course, DuPont
- Whispering Firs Golf Course, JBLM-McChord Field
The decade-old program is supported by a pair of local sports figures: Jermaine Kearse, a former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver and Lakes High School alum, and PGA Tour golfer Andrew Putnam, a Tacoma native. Both serve on the Washington Golf Foundation Board and help “champion the mission of expanding access to the game for the next generation,” a release said.
TOPGOLF JOINS THE PARTY
Topgolf, the entertainment platform and high-tech driving range, has joined forces with Youth on Course for the summer months.
From July 1 to Sept. 3, Youth on Course members receive access to $5 bays at Topgolf locations nationwide.
Active members can reserve an hour-long bay for $5 once per weekday, from opening until noon. The nearest Topgolf for South Sound golfers is in Renton.
Topgolf players earn points by hitting microchipped golf balls at state-of-the-art driving ranges, catering to all skill levels. Features and amenities include a restaurant and bar, private event spaces, and Topgolf swing suites.
“Youth is one of the fastest-growing segments in golf, and Topgolf has both the platform and the responsibility to help grow the game,” Topgolf CEO David McKillips said in a June release. “In an effort to create 10 million new golfers by 2030, Youth on Course is an important partner and natural extension of our mission.
“When young people experience the joy of golf early, they become golfers for life. That’s good for them, good for the industry, and good for the game we all love.”
