Washington cancels spring football practice, spring game, pro day due to coronavirus concerns

In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, Washington has canceled all athletic-related activities and events — including workouts, training and practices — through the end of the spring quarter on June 5.

Football’s pro day and spring game are included in the cancellations. UW was previously scheduled to hold its pro day on March 31 and open spring practice on April 1. The spring game — the first under first-year head coach Jimmy Lake — was scheduled for April 25.

A release on Thursday night also read: “Department leadership and the medical team will continue to assess and monitor the situation and be ready to make appropriate decisions based on guidance from health officials about resuming athletic-related events and activities.”

The decision was made in accordance with campus, state and CDC officials, the statement read. On Wednesday, the university announced the decision to move the entirety of the spring quarter to online-only learning. The Pac-12 had previously announced the cancellation of all spring athletics competitions and championships.
