UW Huskies guard Nahziah Carter suspended from team activities
Washington senior guard Nahziah Carter has been suspended from all team activities for violating the Intercollegiate Athletics student code of conduct, the men’s basketball team announced Thursday evening.
The release said there would be “no further comment at this time.” It’s unclear if the suspension will last into the season. A UW spokesperson said she couldn’t comment on a timeline.
A returning starter and the Huskies’ leading returning scorer, Carter averaged 12.4 points per game in 2019-20. He reached double figures in all but eight games and set career-highs in steals (46), blocks (25) and assists (48). Carter played his best game of the season when he finished with 23 points, three rebounds and three assists in UW’s road win over Arizona State in March.
Carter has steadily improved each season at UW. He averaged 5.1 points, 1.7 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game as a freshman before averaging 8.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in 20.5 minutes as a sophomore.
If Carter does miss the season, it would be a substantial loss for the Huskies. Carter was looking to take another step forward in his senior season and has All-Pac-12 potential. He’s one of two returning players that started at least 20 games in 2019-20.
Including Carter, UW returns five players who started at least one game last season. The Huskies also added three transfers in Nate Pryor, Erik Stevenson and Cole Bajema. Pryor, who transferred from North Idaho College, will be immediately eligible. Stevenson (Wichita State) and Bajema (Michigan) will need the NCAA to grant eligibility waivers in order to play this season.
