This will be the second meeting in history between UW and Georgetown — and the second in the NCAA Tournament. The last time the two program’s met in late 2019, the Hoyas — who went on to win the national championship — ended the Huskies’ season in the quarterfinals. UW scored early on a Jaret Townsend goal, but the Hoyas rallied with a pair of goals from Jacob Montes and Derek Dodson after the 70-minute mark to secure the 2-1 win in Washington, D.C. and advance. The Hoyas have now advanced to the tournament for the fifth consecutive season, while the Huskies are back for their sixth consecutive trip. Georgetown opened its season with 10 victories before losses to Providence and Marquette in October, has nine shutouts this fall and outpaced its first two tournament opponents, 6-1, before edging West Virginia in a shootout last week. UW, meanwhile, opened its season this fall with 12 straight wins before dropping its only loss to Oregon State in October, has posted 11 shutouts this season — including the quarterfinals win over Saint Louis — and outscored its first three tournament opponents, 8-3. The winner of Friday’s match moves on to play the winner of the semifinals meeting between No. 8 Clemson and No. 4 Notre Dame in Sunday’s championship.
