Huskies hire Purdue’s JaMarcus Shephard as wide receivers coach
The Washington Huskies football coaching staff is now complete ahead of the 2022 season.
The university announced Thursday afternoon JaMarcus Shephard, who coached at Purdue the past five seasons, will join new coach Kalen DeBoer’s staff as its associate head coach, passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach.
Shephard joined Purdue’s staff in 2017 as the program’s wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator, and also spent the past four seasons as the Boilermakers’ co-offensive coordinator.
He started his FBS coaching career at Western Kentucky in 2011, and spent five seasons as an assistant there.
He also spent one season in the Pacific Northwest in 2016, coaching inside wide receivers at Washington State before joining Purdue’s staff.
“I am excited to welcome JaMarcus and his family to our program,” DeBoer said in a release. “I’ve followed his success over the years and always been impressed with how hard and well coached his players are. He’s done a great job recruiting top talent and proven to have the ability to develop them while under his guidance. JaMarcus is a great fit with our staff and I am excited about the impact he will have on wide receiver position group, our offense and our program as a whole.”
Earlier on, Shephard played wide receiver at Indiana’s DePauw University for four seasons from 2001-04.
He also coached as an assistant for one season each at Northrop High School and Broad Ripple High School in Indiana in 2005 and 2006, and assisted on DePauw’s track and field staff in 2007.
Shephard joins the Huskies following the departure of former wide receivers coach Junior Adams, who after three seasons in Seattle is now at Oregon.
Adams was one of two coaches from the previous staff — along with offensive line coach Scott Huff — set to return at UW this season, but after three seasons in Seattle, has joined Oregon as the program’s co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.
