Tracking local golfers on the PGA Tour for Nov. 19
This week: The RSM Classic, Thursday through Sunday, Sea Island Resort Seaside and Plantations Courses, Sea Island, Georgia.
In the field: Olympia’s Andres Gonzales, Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley and University Place’s Michael Putnam.
First-round scores: Stanley shot a 6-under-par 66 at Plantation, Gonzales had a 2-under 68 at Seaside, and Putnam shot an even-par 72 at Plantation.
Positions: Stanley is tied for second, Gonzales is tied for 63rd, and Putnam is tied for 111th — all trailing leader Kevin Kisner (7-under 65 at Plantation).
Recap: Stanley was on point with six birdies, plus an eagle at the par-5 18th hole, where his 5-wood approach shot stopped inches below the hole. The Bellarmine Prep grad celebrated his 28th birthday Thursday. … It was a largely uneventful day (one birdies, one bogey) for Gonzales, the Capital High School graduate, until late in his round. Then he made birdies at No. 14 (13-foot putt) and No. 15 (up-and-down from 60 feet out of right greenside rough at par 5). … Putnam is going to need a rally Friday to make the cut. He began his first round by draining a 13-foot putt for birdie, but he made a double bogey three holes later when he knocked his tee shot out of bounds.
Tee times Friday: Gonzales at 6 a.m. (PST) off Plantation No. 10, Stanley at 6:10 a.m. off Seaside No. 1 and Putnam at 7 a.m. off Seaside No. 1.
