SCOUTING REPORT
4A – Could this be the year the state-title trophy returns to the West Central District? Junior-led Jefferson repeated as district champion last week, and made noise at last year’s state tournament with a third-place finish. The Raiders have a standout in WCD champion Whitney Lee, who is the top returning state placer (third) from a year ago. … Junior Kristina Harris has a pair of top-five state finishes (seconds in 2016, fifth last season), and if she gets it rolling, the Rams have enough depth to make a championship run. … Of course, defending 4A champion Eastmont might have something to say about this weekend’s outcome. The Wildcats held off 2016 state champion Wenatchee in the District 6 tournament to gain that region’s lone berth.
3A – It will likely take an extraordinary effort to prevent Evergreen of Vancouver from becoming the first school since Mark Morris to repeat as 3A champion. First, the Plainsmen return Anderson, the defending champ, this weekend. And secondly, Anderson didn’t even win the district crown this season – teammate Lexi Henderson did. Evergreen has lots of depth and talent to go around. … The best bets to topple the Plainsmen are WCD champion Wilson, led by state contender Sierra Berry and a troop of up-and-coming sophomores, or Southwest District rival Hudson’s Bay, led by reigning state runner-up Reagan Lorey.
2A/1A – Three years ago, Columbia River came to Narrows Plaza and ran away with the 3A/2A title. The Chieftains could very well do the same behind their talented trio of Madison Mollahan, Maddy Getz and Becca Gunderson. They totaled 3,985 pins to capture the district title, winning by more than 400 pins over Mark Morris. … Boudreau warmed up for her state defense by winning the district championship with a three-game total of 639.
