Olympia High School football coach Steve Davis relieved of duties
Olympia High School football coach Steve Davis will not have his coaching contract renewed next season, Olympia athletic director Bob Kickner confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
The Olympia School District released a statement Wednesday morning.
“Head coach Steve Davis will not be returning for the 2020-21 football season,” the statement reads. “This decision was made after assessing the collective body of work of coach Davis after his three seasons leading the team. As such the Olympia School District has made the decision to move in a different direction with the Olympia High School football program.
“We would like to thank coach Davis for his years of service to the Olympia community and the Olympia High School football program.”
Davis was hired in 2017 and took over for longtime coach Bill Beattie, who left to take the Tumwater job after Sid Otton retired.
Davis compiled a 12-18 overall record in his three seasons as the head coach of the Bears. After a 5-5 record in 2017, Olympia has posted back-to-back losing seasons, with a 3-7 record in 2018 and a 4-6 record in 2019.
Davis had been a part of Olympia’s program since 1992, serving as an assistant with the program for 25 years before taking over as the program’s head coach in 2017.
Efforts to reach Davis on Tuesday evening were unsuccessful.
