SPANAWAY LAKE 41, BONNEY LAKE 6

The Dempsy James showcase was in full swing on Thursday night: the Spanaway Lake quarterback exploded for six total touchdowns in a 41-6 rout over Bonney Lake.

James tossed five scores, and rushed for another — all in the opening half.

Sentinels receivers Jasiah Wagoner and KeeKee McQueen each caught a pair of touchdowns.

By halftime, Spanaway Lake led by 41. Their defense kept Bonney Lake off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter, grabbing three interceptions and recovering a fumble.

KENTWOOD 15, FEDERAL WAY 9

Although offense was tough to come by for the Conquerors in their win over the Eagles, the defense came through in clutch moments to swing the momentum when they needed it most.

Up 3-0 and driving late in the second quarter, the Conquerors had the ball on the Eagles’ 24-yard line but fumbled the ball away to stop the drive in its tracks.

The Conquerors pushed the Eagles back until they forced a safety to go up 5-0. After the Federal Way kickoff, the Conquerors once again drove to secure a field goal at the end of the first half.

Kentwood’s final score would come in the third quarter on a five-yard rush and a good kick after.

YELM 47, NORTH THURSTON 6

Aden Schaler already had a pair of receiving touchdowns, but the Tornados receiver whirled his way to a 60-yard punt return touchdown that put an early game out of reach.

When the closing whistles blew, Yelm had toppled North Thurston by a convincing 47-6 score on Thursday night.

Yelm put 27 first-quarter points on the board, and Schaler’s special teams score contributed to 20 more in the second.

Yelm quarterback Palaina Hooper threw four first-quarter touchdowns. Schaler caught Hooper’s first touchdown pass on a 40-yard strike, and would catch his second (and last) pass on a 26-yard score.

Receiver Nathan Paul caught the other pair of Hooper touchdowns, for 24 and 30 yards. Paul finished with four catches, good for 93 yards.

Yelm’s Kollin Gifford added a five-yard rushing score in the second, and William Carreto dashed for a 21-yard touchdown before halftime.

North Thurston’s only score came in the third quarter on a 25-yard touchdown pass.

Hooper’s night included 215 yards through the air.

AUBURN 71, KENT MERIDIAN 20

Auburn’s Amari Goodfellow threw 3 touchdowns, and ran for another 149 yards with a score.

All before halftime.

On the Trojans’ senior night and homecoming game, their offense hung 64 first-half points on Kent Meridian, and initiated the running clock during a 71-20 victory on Friday night.

Lateibreon Chandler scored Auburn’s first points with a six-yard rushing score in the first quarter. That’s when Goodfellow took over, finding Luvens Valcin, Semaj Brown, and Chandler for a trio of touchdowns.

Chandler scored twice before, but hit pay dirt for the third time after taking a punt return 60 yards to the house.

Goodfellow’s 34-yard scamper into the end zone was the final touchdown of the first quarter.

It was already 44-0.

In the second, Auburn scored 20 more. Ben Williams punched the ball in for a one-yard rushing score, Valcin scored on an 18-yard carry, and Eddie Carter pushed the score to 64-0 on a two-yard run before halftime.

By then, Goodfellow’s night was over, and Auburn’s second team was on the field.

Kent Meridian scored 20 points in the second-half, but their once-64 point deficit was too great to overcome. In the fourth, Auburn’s Frank Lakisa found Rhyan Fesili for a 30-yard touchdown that pushed the Trojan point total to 71.

Carter added a forced fumble and subsequent recovery. Goodfellow completed six of his 10 passes for 118 yards and three touchdowns, adding his 149 rushing yards on just five carries.

PUYALLUP 24, EMERALD RIDGE 21 (2OT)

A complete back and forth battle between the Vikings and Jaguars ends in a 19-yard field goal made by Puyallup’s sophomore kicker Luke Faccone.

The Viking defense was consistently tested by the Jaguars’ sophomore quarterback Jake Schakel and senior wide receiver Denzel Boston. The first score of the game was a 78-yard completion from Schakel to Boston to give the Jaguars an early lead. They would hook up again in the third quarter for 14 yards to go up 14-7.

However, the Vikings would fight back with a 36-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Micah Balzarini to senior wide receiver Jordan Dwyer to make the score 14-12. Junior running back Ryan Cramer score the 2-point conversion to tie it at 14.

After another Jaguars touchdown, the Vikings were able to tie the game at 21 when Balzarini hit Dwyer for a 43-yard touchdown. The fourth quarter was trouble for both teams, however. Both traded turnovers to each other until the end of regulation.

After defensive stands by both teams in the first overtime period, the Vikings forced the Jaguars to fumble on their second overtime possession. From there, Faccone delivered.

GIG HARBOR 29, CAPITAL 7

After giving up a first-quarter score to the Cougars, the Tides’ defense settled in and took over the game. Not only would they play tough defense, but the offense would move the ball effectively up and down the field.

Junior quarterback Will Landram had a couple of interceptions but found a good rhythm in the game, going 16-of-33 for 254 yards and a touchdown. That touchdown throw went to sophomore receiver Ben Stevens from 16 yards out.

Running the ball effectively was junior running back Blaze Herbert, carrying the ball 16 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns in the first half alone. Unfortunately, he couldn’t add to those totals because he got hurt in the first half.

Senior Parker Born probably had the best on both sides of the ball for the Tides. As a receiver, Born caught the ball seven times for 157 yards. Defensively, he had eight solo tackles and five assisted tackles to lead the defense. Junior Christian Parrish also had four tackles, an assisted one, and a pick of his own on the night.

ENUMCLAW 28, FIFE 10

Enumclaw’s rushing attack scored a trio of touchdowns, and the Hornets buzzed to a 28-10 win over Fife on Saturday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, Fife found the game’s first points when Roy Lockley punched in a four-yard rushing touchdown. Joel Garcia banged the extra point through, and the Trojans led by seven.

Enumclaw trailed, but a pair of rushing touchdowns before halftime put them in front. A nine-yard Hornet touchdown (and missed extra point) cut the lead to one, and a subsequent 80-yard scoring rush pushed the lead to seven after converting for two.

Fife would cut into Enumclaw’s lead; Garcia was good from 27 yards on a third-quarter field goal, but the Trojan offense stumbled from then on.

With a 14-10 lead, Enumclaw rushed for another touchdown in the third quarter.

A six-yard passing touchdown in the fourth quarter swelled the Hornet lead to three scores.

Enumclaw improved to 4-1 in the 2A SPSL, as Fife fell to 2-2 in league contests.
