Winner of The News Tribune’s Athlete of the Week (April 11 to 16)
Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s high school Athlete of the Week poll (April 11 to 16). Thanks to everyone who voted and supported local student-athletes.
This week’s winner is:
Colton Anardi, Auburn baseball
It’s the second week in a row Anardi wins The News Tribune’s Athlete of the Week poll, and he’s been in strong form for the Trojans on the mound. He continued his lights out season, throwing a complete-game one-hit shutout in a 7-0 win over Auburn Riverside on Wednesday. He struck out seven in seven innings of work.

Colton Anardi, Auburn baseball: After winning last week’s Athlete of the Week poll, Anardi continued his lights out season, throwing a complete-game one-hit shutout in a 7-0 win over Auburn Riverside on Wednesday. He struck out seven in seven innings of work.
Justin Brennan, Lakes baseball: In two games against first-place Silas on Tuesday and Thursday, Brennan went 6-for-8 with five singles, a double, three runs scored, two RBI and three stolen bases.
Alex Welter, Spanaway Lake soccer: Scored three goals for Spanaway Lake in games against Silas and Lincoln.
Nate Vitzthum, Puyallup soccer: Vikings’ goalkeeper had two shutouts in goal for Puyallup in a scoreless draw against Sumner and a 1-0 win over Curtis.
Ethan Mitchell, Steilacoom soccer: Senior had four goals last week — two against Foss and two against Orting in 2A SPSL play.
Madison Walls, Fife softball: Sophomore pitcher faced seven batters in two innings in relief appearance against Orting. Struck out six to secure a 9-6 win for the Trojans, also going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a pair of stolen bases.
Austin Crawford, Federal Way baseball: Allowed one earned run and struck out six batters in 5-2 win over Tahoma on Wednesday.
Isaiah Afework, Federal Way baseball: Pitched in relief in two games for 4 and 1/3 innings total, giving up one hit, no runs and no walks and striking out seven batters. Picked up the win in relief over Auburn Riverside on Monday and a save, closing out Tahoma on Wednesday. Also, 4-for-9 with a double and triple for the week.
Orlando Young, Federal Way baseball: Threw a complete seven inning shutout in a 7-0 win against Kentlake on Thursday allowing just two hits while striking out 10 batters.
Ayden Vega, Federal Way baseball: Went 3-for-4 in a win against Kentlake on Thursday, including two doubles and two RBI, while scoring a run and assisting in a double play at shortstop.
Gavin Yoder, Silas baseball: Had two hits and three RBI in 10-9 win over Lakes on Tuesday and one hit and another RBI in 5-4 win over Lakes on Thursday.
Dylan Watts, Enumclaw baseball: Threw six innings of shutout baseball over Orting in a 5-0 win on Thursday. Final line: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 11 K
Mason Pike, Puyallup baseball: Freshman had a hit and three RBI in 11-0 win over Curtis on Saturday.
Tyler Logan, Curtis baseball: Junior collected a pair of hits in three at-bats in 11-0 loss to Puyallup on Saturday.
Hunter Grasser, Puyallup baseball: Threw three innings in Puyallup’s 11-0 win over Curtis on Saturday, striking out three and allowing just one hit.
Elijah Higginbottom, Sumner baseball: Tossed a complete-game shutout in 4-0 win over Curtis on Friday, allowing just three hits, striking out four and walking two.
Aden Dance, Sumner baseball: Collected a pair of hits and scored two runs in 4-0 win over Curtis on Friday.
Dayton Byrne, Kentridge baseball: Had two hits in 12-7 loss to Kentlake and a hit in 1-0 win over Tahoma.
Andrew Moberly, Kentridge baseball: Tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just one hit and striking out 10 in 1-0 win over Tahoma on Thursday.
Amari Goodfellow, Auburn baseball: In four games last week, Goodfellow racked up five hits and seven RBI in wins over Kent-Meridian, Auburn Riverside, Todd Beamer and Thomas Jefferson.
Payton Knowles, Peninsula baseball: In three games, Knowles collected five hits and three RBI in two wins over Timberline, and Jackson on Saturday.
Caleb Wenz, Silas baseball: In 10-9 win over Lakes on Tuesday and 5-4 win over Lakes on Thursday, Wenz had three hits and two RBI for the Rams.
Hailey Rath, Eatonville softball: In 7-5 and 13-3 wins over Tenino on Friday, Rath racked up five hits, six RBI and three home runs.
Makenna Quenga, Lakes softball: In 8-7 win over Lincoln and 22-3 win over Mount Tahoma, Quenga collected six hits, nine RBI, two doubles, a triple and two home runs.
Samantha Bland, Puyallup softball: In 12-1 win over Rogers on Monday, Bland had a hit and two RBI.
Jess Eaton, Bonney Lake softball: In 16-0 win over Stadium, 18-9 win over Sumner and 26-6 win over Spanaway Lake, Eaton racked up eight hits, eight RBI, a double and a triple.
Sydney Rucshner, Sumner softball: In four games — which included three wins in the 4A SPSL — Rucshner collected seven hits, 11 RBI, two doubles and two home runs.
