Winner of The News Tribune’s Athlete of the Week (May 2 to 7)

Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s high school Athlete of the Week poll (May 2 to 7). Thanks to everyone who voted and supported local student-athletes.

This week’s winner is:

Orlando Young, Federal Way baseball

The freshman threw a complete seven inning win 3-1 over Tahoma last week allowing only one run and no walks while striking out 10 batters.

Chase McMillian, Puyallup soccer: Junior midfielder had four goals in three games, including the game-winner against Kentwood in the opening round of the 4A District 3/4 tournament.

Amari Goodfellow, Auburn baseball: Hit 6-for-9 in Auburn’s last three games, hitting two home runs, a double and four RBI. On the mound, pitched 6 and 2/3 innings against Kentlake, allowing just one hit, striking out nine and allowing no earned runs.

Alli Kimball, Peninsula softball: Threw a second consecutive perfect game against Central Kitsap on Tuesday.

Zane May, Emerald Ridge soccer: Scored the decisive goal against Rogers on Monday, scored on Wednesday against Bethel, becoming the school’s single-season scoring record holder with 13 goals. On Saturday, scored the equalizing goal in the final minutes against Skyview in the district tournament, sending the game to overtime.

Anthony Myers, Federal Way baseball: Went 3-for-4 with two RBI, two stolen bases and assisted in two double plays at second base in a win against Kentwood, added a double against Tahoma and went 1-for-2 against Puyallup finishing with a .412 season average that included ten doubles, three triples and a homerun.

Joseph Krahner, Federal Way baseball: Went 4-for-5 including a double with three walks and two RBI in three games last week against Kentwood, Tahoma and Puyallup.

Orlando Young, Federal Way baseball: The freshman threw a complete seven inning win 3-1 over Tahoma last week allowing only one run and no walks while striking out 10 batters.

Adam Brooks, Puyallup baseball: Threw five shutout innings in 10-0 district tournament win over Federal Way.

Hunter Bennett, Peninsula baseball: Senior pitcher allowed just two hits in five innings in 11-0 win over Auburn Mountainview in 3A district tournament.

Joseph Gutierrez, Silas baseball: Tossed six innings without allowing an earned run in 4-2 district tournament win over Mountain View.

Mason Tomich, Tahoma soccer: Senior center back controlled the back line and built Tahoma’s attack out of the back in 4-0 district tournament win over Rogers.

Justin Bodnar, Peninsula soccer: Senior scored two goals in 2-1 district tournament win over Auburn Riverside.

Romeo Brown, Timberline soccer: Scored two goals in Timberline’s 3-2 district tournament win over Evergreen.

Ivan Li, Timberline soccer: Scored the game-winning goal in the 78th minute in Timberline’s 3-2 district tournament win over Evergreen.

Connor Goff, Bonney Lake soccer: Opened the scoring for the Panthers with a goal in the 34th minute in Bonney Lake’s 3-1 district tournament win over Thomas Jefferson.

Jackson Hendricks, Stadium soccer: Just five minutes into Stadium’s district tournament 3-0 win over Mountain View, Hendricks scored the opening goal for the Tigers.

Matt Ludlow, Gig Harbor soccer: Scored two goals in Gig Harbor’s 5-2 district tournament win over Auburn Mountainview.

Brayden Platt, Yelm track: Threw 56 feet, 10.25 inches in the shot put at the 56th Bob Shaner Invitational and broke the meet record in the javelin, throwing 189 feet, 8 inches.
