Winner of The News Tribune’s Athlete of the Week (May 9 to 14)

Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s high school Athlete of the Week poll (May 9 to 14). Thanks to everyone who voted and supported local student-athletes.

This week’s winner is:

Braden Zadow, Auburn baseball

He went 3-for-5 including a double in two district playoff wins against Bainbridge Island and Peninsula on Saturday as the Trojans won the 3A district title.

Gavin Sheets, Peninsula baseball: In 3A district semifinal win over Silas, pitched a complete game, going seven innings, allowing six hits, two runs, two walks and striking out six.

Brooke Mansfield, Bonney Lake track: Broke her own school record in the 300-meter hurdles at the 3A PCL Track and Field Championships, clocking in at 45.45 seconds. Also won the 100-meter hurdles at 15.59.

Anthony Myers, Federal Way baseball: Went 2-for-2 including hitting his 11th double of the season along with two walks, one RBI, scored two runs and led a double play on defense in a playoff game against Rogers last Tuesday ending the year with a .431 batting average.

Braden Zadow, Auburn baseball: Went 3-for-5 including a double in two district playoff wins against Bainbridge Island and Peninsula on Saturday as the Trojans won the 3A district title.

Cody Monaghan, Tahoma baseball: Went 3-for-5 including a double, three RBI, one walk and scored two runs in two district playoff wins against Kentwood and Skyview as the Bears qualified for the state regional playoffs.

Nate Vitzthum, Puyallup soccer: Allowed just one goal in three games in the 4A District 3/4 boys soccer tournament and had four saved penalty kicks in Puyallup’s wild 16-round shootout against Union in the championship game.

Hailey Perrine, Spanaway Lake track: Swept the 3A PCL championship events, placing first in the 100-meter (12.55 seconds), long jump (18-4), triple jump (36-2) and the anchor of the first-place 4x100-meter relay team (50.02).

Amari Goodfellow, Auburn baseball: Threw a complete-game in 3-1 win over Peninsula in 3A District 3/4 championship game.

Logan Shepherd, Olympia baseball: Went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, the go-ahead home run, two RBI and a walk in 4A District 3/4 championship game win over Puyallup.

Sam Walter, Stadium soccer: Made several big saves in 1-0 win over Bainbridge in 3A District 3/4 championship game.

Marvin Soeum, Franklin Pierce soccer: Scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute in a 1-0 win over North Kitsap in the 2A district tournament.

Jairo Ramirez, Fife soccer: Scored the second goal in Fife’s 3-1 win over Sequim in the 2A district tournament.

Nic Lewandowski, Bonney Lake baseball: Struck out nine hitters in six innings in 8-1 win over Gig Harbor in the 3A District 3/4 tournament. His final line: six innings, two hits, one run, nine strikeouts, and four walks.

Reese Widman, Steilacoom baseball: Ripped a bases-clearing double to center field to tie the third/fourth place 2A district tournament game against Enumclaw, which Steilacoom went on to win, 7-4.

Spencer Willhite, Fife baseball: Had a triple in the second inning of Fife’s district championship game loss to North Kitsap and drove in a pair of runs in the fifth inning.
