Spanaway Lake High School cornerback Jasiah Wagoner verbally committed to Oklahoma University on Monday afternoon. He announced his commitment with a video on social media.

Wagoner, a 5-foot-11 corner in the 2023 class, is considered a four-star recruit by 247sports.com. He holds 16 offers and chose the Sooners over offers from Cal, Oregon, Texas and others.

Wagoner, one of the nation’s top shutdown corners, was a first-team selection to The News Tribune’s 2021 All-Area team last fall. In seven games, he led the Sentinels with 521 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He had an interception on defense.

“As a player, he’s been fantastic (this offseason),” 247sports.com national recruiting editor Brandon Huffman told The News Tribune in late June. “Outstanding on the 7on7 circuit. His stock continues to rise.”

With Wagoner’s commitment to Oklahoma, the Washington Huskies have just one 2023 commit ranked in the Top 10 of 247’s rankings, Ferndale offensive lineman Landen Hatchett. Wagoner has been part of a talented collection of talent at Spanaway Lake, which has put the school on the map the past couple of years. The Sentinels won the 3A Pierce County League title during the shortened 2021 spring season, when the team went a perfect 6-0 and allowed just 14 points over that span.

The flawless run was highlighted by a 34-7 win in week one over preseason league favorite Lincoln, which had just reached the Class 3A state tournament semifinals the year before. It was the first time Lincoln had been held to seven points since a state playoff loss against Rainier Beach in 2018.
