CLASS 2A BOYS
THURSDAY’S SCHEDULE
NO. 4 MARK MORRIS 60, NO. 11 TUMWATER 51
MM: 19-4-11-26--60
T: 6-14-10-21--51
Flipping big offensive quarters in the first half, the Monarchs held a 23-20 lead over the T-Birds heading into halftime. However, some costly turnovers on the part of Tumwater gave Mark Morris the edge and they pulled away in the second half.
The Monarchs also outshot the T-Birds, shooting nearly 40% from the floor and went 25-34 from the free throw line. Tumwater, on the other hand, shot 34% from the floor and 7-10 at the line.
Four players for the Monarchs reached double-digits; senior Kobe Parlin netted 21 points, juniors Braydon Olson and Malakai Gray had 14 and 12, respectively, and senior Deacon Dietz rounded out the top-four scorers with 11.
Tumwater had a couple of double-digit scorers themselves in senior Andrew Collins’ 18 point game, and senior Luke Brewer’s 10. Brewer also co-led the T-Birds in rebounds with seven in the game, tying senior Gunnar Harroun’s mark.
The loss sends Tumwater to the consolation bracket for the 2A state tournament. There, they will take on No. 10 Enumclaw. That game will take place at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 3 at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
SCORING: (MM) Deacon Dietz 11, Kobe Parlin 21, Malakai Gray 12, Braydon Olson 14, Dossen Morrow 2; (T) Luke Reid 5, Andrew Collins 18, Luke Brewer 10, Gunnar Harroun 3, Connor Hopkins 2, Brayden Oram 9, Tanner Brewer 4
NO. 1 PULLMAN 54, NO. 10 ENUMCLAW 40
The bracket’s top seed stifled Enumclaw’s offense in the second half and pulled away for a win in Thursday’s quarterfinal.
Pullman’s 54-40 win at the Yakima Valley SunDome puts the Greyhounds in Friday’s state semifinal.
“I think we made Pullman work hard,” Enumclaw coach Terry Johnson said. “In the end, they just made a few more shots.”
Enumclaw’s defense remained a constant force, though Pullman was the more-efficient scoring machine. The Greyhounds shot a combined 43 percent from the field — that bested Enumclaw’s team percentage of 29.
Senior guard Carter DeRosier led the Hornets with 19 points and three steals. Senior wing Ty Hanson added a team-high seven rebounds.
“(Carter) is a very confident player,” Johnson said. “We’ve always told him just to let it fly.”
Senior guard Noah Seabrands, Enumclaw’s top scorer in Wednesday’s first-round upset win over No. 2 Anacortes, tallied 11 points and a team-high five assists.
Pullman’s Jaedyn Brown posted game-highs in points (23) and rebounds (eight).
“We obviously wanted to slow (Brown) down and make him work as much as possible,” Johnson said. “Ultimately, holding (Pullman) to 54 points is enough to give us a chance. We’ve got to be able to score a little bit more.”
Enumclaw led by as many as four points in the first half. Pullman took the defining lead shortly before halftime and never let go.
The Hornets remain in the running for fourth-place honors in the 2A bracket. Enumclaw meets No. 11 Tumwater in a Friday consolation game, an unfamiliar foe this season. The winner plays for fourth place on Saturday.
Pullman meets No. 4 Mark Morris in Friday’s 2A semifinal, set for a 3:45 p.m. start.
SCORING: (P) Jaedyn Brown 23, Champ Powaukee 15, Dane Sykes 9, Austin Hunt 4, Tanner Barbour 2, Caleb Northcroft 1; (E) Carter DeRosier 19, Noah Seabrands 11, Ty Hanson 6, Karson Holt 4
CLASS 2A GIRLS
THURSDAY’S SCHEDULE
NO. 3 BURLINGTON-EDISON 39, NO. 5 TUMWATER 30
The Tigers built a commanding first-half lead, enough to hold off Tumwater’s rally in Thursday night’s quarterfinal in Yakima.
Burlington-Edison’s defense held the T-Birds to a dozen points in the first half and secured a trip to Friday’s 2A semifinal.
Tumwater battled twice from double-digit deficits, trailing by as many as 16 points in the third quarter. That narrowed to six with a minute to play — but Tumwater missed three attempts from beyond the arc in the final 60 seconds.
Tigers sophomore Chesah Holmes snagged the game-sealing rebound as the horn sounded, her 12th of the night. It tied a game-high.
Tumwater senior Kylie Waltermeyer posted a double-double with 14 points and a dozen rebounds, both game-bests. Senior forward Cierra Larson added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Tigers sophomore Lily Atkins dropped a team-best 11 points. Senior Adria Ray added nine points and seven rebounds.
Burlington-Edison won the rebounding battle, 46-33.
The Tigers tip off at 9 p.m. in Friday’s 2A semifinal at the Yakima Valley SunDome and will meet either No. 7 White River or No. 8 Sequim.
Tumwater remains in contention for a fourth-place finish and meets the White River-Sequim loser on Friday at 2 p.m.

NO. 7 WHITE RIVER 44, NO. 8 SEQUIM 37 (OT)
Thanks to a dominant overtime period, the Hornets are buzzing to the state semifinals.
White River needed a fifth period to beat Sequim, but five Hornets scored in overtime to help clinch an appearance in Friday’s ‘Final Four.’
Dani Herman’s jumper was Sequim’s only converted field goal of six team attempts in added time. The Hornets took advantage and grabbed a six-point lead before Herman’s shot finally fell.
Sequim’s Jolene Vaara posted a game-high 14 points. Melissa Julmist snagged 15 rebounds.
Hornets forward Ava Bright paced her team with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Both programs shot 26 percent from the field and were busy on the boards, though Sequim won a 42-40 rebounding battle. They also coughed up 21 total turnovers apiece.
White River meets No. 3 Burlington-Edison in Friday’s semifinal at the Yakima Valley SunDome. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m.
The win guaranteed White River a top-five finish in the bracket.

CLASS 1A BOYS
THURSDAY’S SCHEDULE
NO. 5 KING’S 66, NO. 3 ANNIE WRIGHT 63
K: 21-12-16-17--66
AW: 16-12-14-21--63
The Gators fell just short against the Knights as just a few good possessions separated the two teams.
Down 33-28 at the half, Annie Wright had to make some quick adjustments on how to respond to the changing defenses from King’s. Although it was still kept relatively close, the Gators could only break through in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Reggie Lester had Annie Wright’s best offensive night thanks to his aggressive play. As he continued to attack the hoop, Lester accumulated a game-high 24 points. His aggressiveness driving the lane opened up shots for teammates like junior TJ Marshall to knock down 14 points of his own.
“It was an intense game. Our players came out a little unfocused and a little scared of the big moment, but it was a good game,” said coach Dom Williams. “We have to go back to the drawing board to try and finish the tournament. [King’s] threw a lot of different defenses at us. Going into big games, the guys have got to be prepared for these moments.”
The Knights had three players eclipse double-digit scoring; junior Nick Linhardt with 23, sophomore Cameron Hiatt with 16, and junior Dylan Meyers with 15.
The Gators still have a shot to bring home some hardware, however. They bounced down to the consolation bracket semifinals where they have a date with No. 8 Overlake. A win gives them a shot at fourth place, and a loss sends them home.
That game happens at 2 p.m. Friday, March 3 at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
SCORING: (K) Gage Smith 9, Nick Linhardt 23, Cameron Hiatt 16, Dylan Meyers 15, Cole Adams 3; (AW) Reggie Lester 24, Jeremiah Harshman 11, Amare Breedlove 2, TJ Marshall 14, Martin Kaupanger 6, Gabe Walsh 1, Calre Carter 5
CLASS 2B GIRLS
THURSDAY’S SCHEDULE
NO. 1 COLFAX 67, NO. 7 RAINIER 29
C: 21-18-20-8--67
R: 10-6-11-2--29
The Bulldogs demonstrated why they are the number one seed in the 2B state tournament as they out performed the Mountaineers in every facet of the game.
In terms of shooting, Colfax went 23-for-41 for 56% while Rainier was 10-for-29 for a 34.5% mark. The Bulldogs had 35 rebounds, the Mountaineers had 21. There was just an answer Colfax had for everything Rainier threw at them.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was sophomore Brynn McGaughy, scoring a game-high 34 points in the contest. Fellow sophomore Hailey Demler added 14 more on top of that.
“[McGaughy] had a perfect game, and that’s hard to beat,” said coach Brandon Eygabroad. “At the end of the day, we’re still alive and the goal is to take home some hardware. Our goal is to flush today and win tomorrow to guarantee ourselves some hardware. We competed, and [sophomore] Brooklyn Swenson is battling injury. She played a gritty first half.”
For the Mountaineers, sophomore Angelica Askey topped their scoring charts with 10 points.
The loss sends Rainier into the consolation bracket where they will take on La Conner. That matchup will take place at 12:15 p.m. Friday, March 3 at the Spokane Arena. If they win, the Mountaineers will have a chance at fourth place in the state tournament.
SCORING: (C) Jaisha Gibb 5, Brenna Gilchrist 2, Hailey Demler 14, Lauryn York 7, Ava Swan 5, Brynn McGaughy 34; (R) Brooklyn Swenson 8, Angelica Askey 10, Lilly Johnson 2, Anika Plowman 2, Bryn Beckman 5, Acacia Murphy 2
