Isaiah Sonntag dropped 19 points in Puyallup’s home opener – a game-high for the senior guard that lifted the Vikings over 3A-Stadium on Friday night.
Sonntag joined Drew Jones (18 points) and Carsen Lovett (11 points) in double-digits, an effort that kept Puyallup (2-0) unscathed in non-league play ahead of its first 4A-SPSL clash at Emerald Ridge next Tuesday night.
Jones sports a Puyallup-best 19.5 points per game through two contests.
Stadium junior Donovan Gill posted a team-high 18 points Friday night. Miles Washington, a senior, added 11.

Auburn 73, Tahoma 62
Against one of the South Sound’s premier 4A programs, Jaylen Petty answered the call – Auburn’s star guard poured in 31 points Friday night, the standout performance in a tough, physical road victory over Tahoma.
“Our kids competed hard,” Trojans coach Ryan Hansen said. “We won three of the four quarters. We made enough plays down the stretch.
“I was really impressed with our defense, just our gritty toughness.”
Petty’s scoring prowess prevailed on a rolled ankle, suffered early in Friday night’s meeting. That didn’t stop him from dropping a season-high, and it shouldn’t stop him tomorrow when Auburn plays the second of a back-to-back versus White River on Saturday afternoon.
“He’s got ice on it. He’s going to elevate it,” Hansen said. “He’s pretty disciplined with how he takes care of his body, so he’ll get up early and start doing work on it. I expect him to be ready to go tomorrow.”
Petty sank 10 of 11 free throw attempts.
Auburn guard Carter Hansen posted 22 points, including 16 in the first half. Senior guard Luvens Valcin added 11.

Bonney Lake 62, Enumclaw 29
Jazmyn Shipp’s 28 points powered Bonney Lake (1-1) to its first victory this season, a dominant win over 2A Enumclaw on Wednesday night in a matchup between reigning respective state-tournament participants.
Shipp, the reigning 3A PCL co-MVP, dropped 10 points in the fourth quarter and extended Bonney Lake’s lead to 33 before the final horn. The center-forward Shipp averaged 17 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists per game as a junior last year.
Bonney Lake’s interior defensive presence — Shipp included — surrendered just 11 first-half points and forced outside looks in hopes of a Hornets rally; Enumclaw’s Kaylee Swanson sunk a pair of triples in the third quarter and tied for a team-high 12 points (Bella Firnkoess).
But Enumclaw never led beyond the first quarter and Shipp sparked a fourth-quarter surge (22 points) that ensured Bonney Lake’s big win.
Bonney Lake’s Ava Rice added 15 points, including a team-high six points in the first quarter.

Puyallup 64, Mount Rainier 48
The first victory for any 4A SPSL program this 2023-24 season belongs to Puyallup — a 64-48 road win over the Rams on Wednesday night at Mount Rainier High School.
The Vikings built a 31-point lead by halftime and never wavered, using much of the third and fourth periods to rest starters in what quickly became a lopsided season opener.
Puyallup guard Drew Jones dropped a team-high 21 points; Will Nasinec delivered 13 points and Isaiah Sonntag added eight.
The Vikings host non-league Stadium (3A) next on Friday night, Puyallup’s home opener at 7 p.m.
