Winner of The News Tribune’s Athlete of the Week (Jan. 1 to 6)
Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s Athlete of the Week for high school sports contests played Jan. 1-6.
This week’s winner is:
Shayla Cordis, Timberline girls basketball
She recorded a double-double with 30 points and 13 steals, and added eight rebounds and six assists in a win over Auburn Mountainview, and scored 21 points and added seven rebounds and four steals in a win over Peninsula.
Cordis was also named one of the Top 25 girls basketball players to watch in the South Sound this season by the TNT.

Ray Adams, North Thurston boys basketball — Scored a game-high 22 points, hauled in 12 rebounds, five blocks and three steals in win over Gig Harbor on Friday.
AJ Alexeev, Sound Christian boys basketball — Recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and added two steals in a win over Northwest Yeshiva, scored 26 points and added eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in a win over Pope John Paul II, and recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds in a loss to La Conner.
Luke Allison, Gig Harbor boys basketball — Scored 14 points in loss to North Thurston on Friday.
Caleb Berry, Todd Beamer boys basketball — Scored 16 points and added four steals in a win over Auburn Riverside.
Dalton Brown, Tahoma boys basketball — Scored a game-high 34 points in a win over Decatur.
Shayla Cordis, Timberline girls basketball — Recorded a double-double with 30 points and 13 steals, and added eight rebounds and six assists in a win over Auburn Mountainview, and scored 21 points and added seven rebounds and four steals in a win over Peninsula.
Darrell Gipson, Timberline boys basketball — Scored 14 points and added seven rebounds in a win over Tumwater, and scored 15 points and added eight rebounds in a win over Peninsula.
Ashley Harris, Black Hills girls basketball — Scored 15 points and added five rebounds in a win over Tumwater.
Kaylia Heidelberg, Peninsula girls basketball — Scored a game-high 29 points and added eight rebounds and three steals in a loss to Timberline.
Grace Lee, North Thurston girls basketball — Scored 15 points and added seven rebounds, four assists and five steals in a win over Gig Harbor.
Michael Masini, Gig Harbor boys basketball — Scored 14 points in loss to North Thurston on Friday.
Soraya Ogaldez, North Thurston girls basketball — Scored 22 points and added seven rebounds, two assists, four steals and three blocks in a win over Gig Harbor.
Grace Richardson, Timberline girls basketball — Recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, and added six assists and three blocks in a loss to Timberline.
Liam Sheeran, North Thurston boys basketball — Scored six points, had nine assists and six steals in win over Gig Harbor on Friday.
Brandi Stanford, Timberline girls basketball — Scored 28 points and added nine rebounds, four assists and nine steals in a win over Auburn Mountainview, and scored 18 points and added four rebounds, two assists and four steals in a win over Peninsula.
Will Tellis, Todd Beamer boys basketball — Scored 21 points and added seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks in a win over Auburn Riverside.
Tyler Venable, Black Hills girls basketball — Scored 23 points and added four rebounds and three assists in a win over Tumwater.
Treyshawn Weatherspoon, Rogers boys basketball — Scored 20 points and added seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in a win over Bethel, and recorded a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, and added seven assists and seven steals in a win over Emerald Ridge.
