PLAYER OF THE YEAR
JACOB COFIE
Eastside Catholic
Forward, 6-10, sr.
Metro League first-team selection, 3A state tournament MVP and Washington’s “Mr. Basketball” led the Crusaders to the program’s first title at the Tacoma Dome this winter. Averaged 23.5 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and three blocks per game. A 6-foot-10 forward, Cofie is considered the No. 1 rated recruit in Washington in the 2024 class by 247sports. Virginia Cavaliers signee.
COACH OF THE YEAR
BRIAN ROPER
Lynden
Coached Lynden to a 23-4 record and the Class 2A state championship, Lynden’s third consecutive state title and fifth title in the past six tournaments. The championship was the 13th in program history and seventh with Roper leading the way.
FIRST TEAM
ANTHONY CANALES
Lynden
Guard, 6-4, sr.
The three-time Class 2A state tournament MVP led Lynden to three consecutive state titles during his high school career, including an 85-54 rout of Grandview in this year’s title game, in which Canales scored a game-high 29 points. Averaged 23 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
TREVOR HENNIG
Mount Si
Guard, 6-4, sr.
Class 4A state tournament MVP led the Wildcats to a 27-2 overall record, an undefeated record against in-state teams in Washington and the 4A state championship, beating Richland in the championship game. Averaged 23.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. Weber State commit.
RYAN LAFFERTY
Mount Spokane
Guard, 6-5, sr.
A member of the 1,000 point club and the heartbeat of Mount Spokane’s state tournament team, Lafferty led the Greater Spokane League champion Wildcats to a 22-5 record, Class 3A state tournament semifinal appearance and fourth place finish. Led Mount Spokane in several statistical categories, including points (20), assists (five), steals (two) and blocks (one) per game. St. Thomas (Minnesota) commit.
LEGEND SMILEY
Garfield
Guard, 6-5, jr.
The 3A Metro League MVP was once again one of the state’s top guards, leading Garfield to the Class 3A state tournament quarterfinals. The 6-foot-5 guard holds offers from Washington, Utah State and others.
JAYLEN PETTY
Auburn
Guard, 5-11, jr.
The springy junior guard took his game to a different level this season, emerging as one of the state’s best players. 3A NPSL MVP averaged 25.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.4 steals per game for the Trojans, leading Auburn to a 24-3 overall record, an undefeated run through the 3A NPSL, the 3A District 3/4 title and a state tournament appearance. TNT All-Area player of the year.
