Winner of The News Tribune’s Boys Athlete of the Week (May 6 to 11)

Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s Boys Athlete of the Week for high school sports contests played May 6 to 11. Thanks to everyone who voted and supported local student-athletes.

This week’s winner is:

Lincoln Berg, Olympia baseball

He did everything for the Bears to upset SPSL-rival Puyallup in Saturday night’s district championship in extras, 2-1. Lefty starter sparkled across seven innings (zero earned runs) with four walks and six strikeouts, and scored both Bears runs from the leadoff hole, going 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs.

Arya Alijana, Sumner soccer — Scored a second-half goal off a corner kick in Sumner’s 3-2 win over Curtis in the 4A District 3/4 championship game at Auburn on Thursday.

Jesse Bell, Silas baseball – His complete-game shutout in Silas’ 2-0 win over Kentlake punched a ticket to the state tournament on Tuesday. Bell whiffed five without a walk, surrendering five hits.

John Browand, Peninsula baseball – Threw a complete game to upset 3A SSC-champion Capital, 10-3, in Tuesday’s winner-to-state district rivalry. Browand did not allow a runner in scoring position until the fifth inning, surrendering three earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

Micah Bujacich, Steilacoom baseball – His complete-game shutout carried Steilacoom to a state berth on Tuesday over Sammamish, 16-0. Bujacich issued three singles with 12 strikeouts and zero walks.

Aaron Calvo-Guillen, Franklin Pierce soccer — Scored the opening goal in Franklin Pierce’s 2-0 win over Fife in the 2A District 2/3 championship game on Saturday.

Ian Draper, Rogers baseball – The infielder’s go-ahead, three-run home run in the fifth inning lifted Rogers to the state tournament in Saturday’s winner-to-state clash with Kentridge, 7-4.

Cristian Herrera-Alavez, Franklin Pierce soccer — Scored directly on a free kick from around 50 yards out in Franklin Pierce’s 2-0 win over Fife in the 2A District 2/3 championship game on Saturday.

Finn Hawkins, Vashon Island baseball – Pirates starter blanked Charles Wright Academy across 6.2 innings and plated the game’s only runs with a first-inning, two-run double, earning a 2-0 win and 1A state berth. Hawkins surrendered one hit and walked four with six strikeouts.

Adam Jay, Tahoma baseball – Blanked Emerald Ridge across 6 ⅔ innings with two walks and nine strikeouts in Tuesday’s winner-to-state contest that Tahoma grabbed, 3-0.

Travis Kunkel, Olympia baseball – Threw a five-inning no-hitter over Tahoma in Saturday morning’s district semifinals, pushing Olympia to the title game. Faced two batters over the minimum with no walks and eight strikeouts.

Carson LeBeau, Central Kitsap soccer — Saved the opening shot in the penalty kick shootout after overtime, leading the Cougars over Silas and to the 3A District 3/4 title at Auburn on Thursday.

Eddie Marson, Tumwater baseball – His walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh propelled the T-Birds, the reigning two-time 2A champions, back to the state tournament in a comeback win over R.A. Long, 3-2.

Christopher Moore, Kentlake baseball – UW commit was brilliant in a losing effort with 13 strikeouts and zero walks over Silas on Tuesday. Allowed two earned runs on four hits in 2-0 loss.

Mason Pike, Puyallup baseball – Vikings ace struck out 13 in complete-game shutout over Decatur to clinch a state berth on Tuesday. Puyallup rolled, 6-0.

Trace Pruitt, Olympia baseball — Punched Olympia’s ticket to the state tournament with 6.1 stellar frames over NPSL-champion Kennedy Catholic on Tuesday. Surrendered five hits, three walks, and fanned nine with one unearned run. Bears cruised, 7-1.

Aaden Rathbun, White River baseball – Silenced Sammamish in a winner-to-state, loser-out contest on Saturday throughout a complete-game shutout. Fanned 10 without a walk, surrendering three hits. Hornets needed Rathbun’s heroics in a 1-0 win.

Talan Robertson, Rogers baseball – Rams sophomore kept Rogers’ season alive with a complete-game shutout over Skyview in a loser-out district opener on Tuesday, the first of three consecutive wins to clinch a state berth. In seven innings, allowed two hits and a walk with nine strikeouts.

Zackary Rygol, Sumner soccer — Scored Sumner’s first goal in Sumner’s 3-2 win over Curtis in the 4A District 3/4 championship game at Auburn on Thursday.

Jack Skelley, Olympia baseball – Launched a three-run homer in the first inning of Saturday morning’s district semifinals and finished 1-for-1 with a walk and four RBI. Olympia ran away, 11-0.

Michael Tellez, Peninsula baseball — Went 3-for-4, scoring a run and driving in a pair of runs in Peninsula’s 3A District 3/4 championship win over Stadium.

Jackson Walker, Tahoma baseball – Hit two home runs and plated all three runs in Tahoma’s 3-0 win over Emerald Ridge on Tuesday, clinching a state berth.
