Winners of The News Tribune’s Athletes of the Week (Oct. 7 to 12)

Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s Athletes of the Week for contests played between Oct. 7 to 12. Thanks to everyone who voted and supported local student-athletes.

This week’s winners are:

Bryson Allen, Franklin Pierce football and Sydney Winters, Auburn Riverside soccer

Allen, Franklin Pierce’s top running back, took 18 carries for 124 yards and two touchdowns in a 44-7 win over Steilacoom. Winters, the Ravens’ keeper, posted shutouts over Mount Rainier (Oct. 8) and Auburn (Oct. 10) with 12 combined saves, and saved 14 shots in a 4-0 loss to Tahoma. Her 64 saves this season rank fourth in WA.

FOOTBALL

Bryson Allen, Franklin Pierce — Cardinals RB took 18 carries for 124 yards and two touchdowns in 44-7 win over Steilacoom.

Chase Best, Spanaway Lake — Sentinels QB posted the game of his career, completing 30-of-50 passes for 423 yards and five touchdowns in upset win over undefeated Olympia, including a 10-yard touchdown to Malik Burns on the game-winning, fourth-quarter drive.

Kase Betz, Graham-Kapowsin — Eagles WR secured a team-high eight receptions for 89 yards and two touchdowns in 26-24 win over Bethel. Also had an interception on defense.

Malik Burns, Spanaway Lake — Sentinels WR erupted for 10 receptions, 122 yards, and three touchdowns in upset win over undefeated Olympia.

Louis Chevalier, Enumclaw — Hornets RB scored four total touchdowns in 71-0 rout of Kent-Meridian. Took four carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns, and returned two kickoffs for 154 return yards and two touchdowns.

Mikkah Cordero, Mount Tahoma — T-Birds QB guided Mount Tahoma to 27-20 win over undefeated Bellarmine Prep on the road, finishing with three total touchdowns (two pass, one rush).

Nate Donavan, Sumner — Spartans QB threw three touchdown passes in 57-8 win over Rogers.

Devon Forehand, Kennedy Catholic — Lancers QB completed 11-of-12 passes for 253 yards and three touchdowns in runaway win over Auburn Riverside, 59-7. Also rushed for 22 yards on three carries.

Cole Fowler, Eatonville — Sophomore QB completed 19-of-31 passes for four touchdowns and an interception in win over Fife.

Ryland Geldermann, Gig Harbor — Rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries in comeback win over Central Kitsap.

Riley Hill, Eatonville — Senior had six receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown in win over Fife and had nine tackles on defense. Also ran in a 2-point conversion and threw for another.

Hayden Jacquet, River Ridge — Rushed 24 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns in win over Capital.

Indiana Jones, Kennedy Catholic — All-purpose machine exploded for five total touchdowns in 59-7 win over Auburn Riverside. Handled 15 carries for 81 yards and four touchdowns, adding four receptions for 67 yards and a 30-yard touchdown catch.

Sione Kaho, Lincoln — Abes QB completed 18-of-27 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns (no interceptions) in 55-0 blowout win over rival-Silas.

Antoine Lee, Kentwood — Another week, another big game from Kentwood’s star running back. This week, he rushed for 258 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries and converted a 2-point conversion in win over Mount Rainier. Also had a six-yard catch and a 35-yard kickoff return.

Carson McCall, Orting — All-purpose RB took four carries for 63 yards and two touchdowns, adding a 71-yard touchdown pass in 41-6 win over Foss.

Parker Myers, Yelm — Tornados QB completed 11-of-14 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown in big win over Bonney Lake.

Jeremiah Orcutt, Franklin Pierce — Two-way QB/FS did everything in 44-7 win over Steilacoom. Completed 1-of-3 passes for 34 yards, took 10 carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns, adding a tackle and pass deflection on defense.

Ean Owens, Lakes Lancers WR/DB took four carries for 35 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner in a 21-15 win at Peninsula.

Ethan Owens, Yelm — Senior RB/LB handled 10 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown, adding 10 tackles (1 TFL) in 44-7 win over Bonney Lake.

Luke Parker, Puyallup — Vikings QB completed 13-of-17 passes for 185 yards and five touchdowns in place of injured-starter Brayden Paulino, good for a 42-14 win over South Kitsap. Added nine carries for 70 yards on the ground.

Michael Pulalasi, Lakes — Sophomore LB tackled 10 (2 TFL) in win over Peninsula at Roy Anderson Field.

Zaydrius Rainey-Sale, Bethel — Senior LB/WR had four receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns on offense in loss to Graham-Kapowsin. On defense, had nine tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack.

Lucas Redman, Capital — QB completed 19-of-30 passes for 313 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in loss to River Ridge. Also had eight carries for 51 yards and a touchdown.

Jadeon Scranton, Lincoln — Abes RB took six carries for 55 yards and three touchdowns in big win over Silas.

Timothy Sousou, Central Kitsap — Cougars LB/RB had 14 tackles, including six tackles for loss and a sack in loss to Gig Harbor. On offense, rushed for 60 yards on 12 carries and had a 37-yard reception.

Darius Sum, Stadium — Lead RB took nine carries for 151 yards (16.8 YPC) and three touchdowns in 43-13 win over Kentridge.

Junior Teregeyo, Franklin Pierce — Senior RB handled 10 carries for 145 yards (14.5 YPC) and a touchdown in big win over Steilacoom.

AJ Tuivaiave, Graham-Kapowsin — Freshman QB completed 29-of-37 passes for 354 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions in 26-24 win over Bethel.

Beckett Wall, Tumwater — T-Birds LB tackled five (2 TFL) with two sacks in 62-0 win over Black Hills.

FALL SPORTS

Cooper Boyle, Tahoma cross country — Finished third at Saturday’s Nike Hole In The Wall XC Invitational in Marysville, completing the 5,000-meter race in 14:42.9. It’s the second-fastest time among Washington-based runners this season.

Braelyn Carey, Lakes soccer — Junior striker scored three goals in Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Capital, adding one goal and two assists in Thursday’s 4-1 win over Timberline.

Layne Dent, Cascade Christian volleyball — In win over Bellevue Christian, Saint Mary’s commit had 21 kills and 12 digs and in win over Kings, had 15 kills and 16 digs.

Elektra Higgins, Peninsula cross country — Seahawks senior finished runner-up at Saturday’s Saturday’s Nike Hole In The Wall XC Invitational in Marysville, completing 5,000 meters in 16:58.4. It’s the fourth-best time on the statewide girls cross country leaderboard this season.

Emalyn Shaffer, Tumwater soccer — Senior forward scored four goals in 9-0 win over Centralia and two goals against Black Hills in 6-2 win.

Kinley Smith, Timberline volleyball — Sophomore outside hitter tallied 41 total kills in wins over Gig Harbor (Oct. 8) and Bellarmine Prep (Oct. 10).

Sydney Winters, Auburn Riverside soccer — Ravens keeper posted shutouts over Mount Rainier (Oct. 8) and Auburn (Oct. 10) with 12 combined saves, and saved 14 shots in 4-0 loss to Tahoma. Her 64 saves this season rank fourth in WA.
