After 30 years at the helm, Peninsula football’s Ross Filkins resigns
Peninsula head football coach Ross Filkins announced his resignation in a statement Friday afternoon, concluding a 30-year stretch at the helm of the Seahawks.
Filkins was the longest-serving head coach in the South Sound and guided Peninsula to 183 wins throughout his tenure, an all-time school record.
“I am immensely Peninsula Proud of the hundreds of players who hit the Green Line each day ready to learn, compete, and represent the Green and White,” Filkins said in Friday’s statement. “It takes a special kind of grit to represent Purdy. Along the way, you all became family, and each of you will always be a part of the Seahawk Brotherhood.”
Filkins will remain Peninsula’s athletic director and will continue teaching world history, he confirmed to The News Tribune.
“I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure continuity and sustained success,” he said. “I have every confidence that the traditions we’ve built will continue to thrive, and that the future of Peninsula Seahawk Football is bright.
“None of us ever knows exactly what the future holds, but I know this: my best is yet to come.”
