Winner of The News Tribune’s Boys Athlete of the Week (Jan. 6 to 11)

Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s Boys Athlete of the Week for contests played between Jan. 6-11. Thanks to everyone who voted and supported local student-athletes.

This week’s winner is:

Kenyon Simmons, Timberline boys basketball

Simmons, a senior guard, dropped 21 points and 13 rebounds in Timberline’s win over Lakes, then had 17 points and 13 rebounds for his fourth-straight double-double (six total) in a win over Capital.

Darius Alexander, Spanaway Lake boys basketball Junior point guard scored 28 points in loss to Sumner, then posted 16 points and five assists in loss to Puyallup.

Trevor Anderson, Orting wrestling — Sophomore defeated Tahoma’s Crew Lambro by 14-0 major decision in the championship match (120 pounds) to win Saturday’s Viking Invite in Lake Stevens.

Sebastian Arius, Auburn Mountainview boys basketball — Senior guard had 10-point, 10-rebound double-double with seven assists and three steals in win over Kentlake, then dropped 20-point, 13-rebound double-double with seven steals in win over White River.

Dan Babber, Northwest Christian (Lacey) boys basketball — Senior guard had 17 points and five assists in win over Puget Sound Adventist, then dropped 23 points with four rebounds and four assists in win over Quilcene.

Javon Barbee, Franklin Pierce boys basketball — Senior guard scored 33 points with six rebounds, five assists and four steals in win over Steilacoom on Friday.

Hakeen Collins, Franklin Pierce boys basketball — Junior wing erupted for 28-point, 14-rebound double-double (four steals) in win over Rochester, then posted 18 points and nine rebounds in win over Steilacoom.

Brycen Dawley, Tahoma wrestling — Freshman defeated Sumner’s Hoyt Harshman via 5-0 decision in the championship match (113 pounds) to win Saturday’s Viking Invite in Lake Stevens.

Isac Deonigi, Tahoma wrestling — Defeated Auburn Riverside’s Gibson Ayling via 12-4 major decision in Saturday’s 157-pound championship at the Viking Invite in Lake Stevens.

Colby Ducatt, Bonney Lake wrestling — Defeated Tahoma’s Gavin Wells by 8-5 decision in Saturday’s 150-pound championship at the Viking Invite in Lake Stevens.

Michael Fritz, Orting wrestling — Defeated Camas’ Alec Fraser by 4-0 decision in Saturday’s 144-pound championship at the Viking Invite in Lake Stevens.

Dylan Gilderhus, Rogers boys basketball — Scored 16 points and had seven rebounds in win over Spanaway Lake on Tuesday and 17 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals in win over Yelm on Saturday.

Drew Jones, Puyallup boys basketball — Senior point guard scored 17 points in Thursday’s win over Bonney Lake, then dropped 24 points in win over Spanaway Lake.

Matt King, Sumner wrestling — Defeated Graham-Kapowsin’s Elias Nolan via technical fall in Saturday’s championship match (215 pounds) at the Viking Invite in Lake Stevens.

Dar McJimpson, Decatur boys basketball — Senior guard totaled 18 points with three assists and three rebounds in win over Jefferson, then dropped 25 points (8-12 FG) with four assists in win over Kentlake.

Owen Marshall, Tahoma wrestling — Defeated Bethel’s Earle Taylor III via fall (0:54) in the 126-pound championship at Saturday’s Viking Invite in Lake Stevens.

Nery Rivas, Orting wrestling — Defeated Bethel’s Kolten McGuire via technical fall in the championship match (106 pounds) to win Saturday’s Viking Invite in Lake Stevens.

Alan Salguero Jr., Orting wrestling — Three-time state champion defeated Bethel’s Tristin Gibbons via fall (1:26) in Saturday’s 138-pound championship at the Viking Invite in Lake Stevens.

Dominic Thomas, Orting wrestling — Defeated Tahoma’s Alex Othon via fall (0:44) to win Saturday’s 132-pound championship at the Viking Invite in Lake Stevens.

Treyshawn Weatherspoon, Rogers boys basketball — Senior guard dropped 28 points with five assists, five steals and four rebounds in Friday’s win over Bonney Lake.

Terrence Whiting, Todd Beamer boys basketball — Senior guard erupted for 28-point, 12-rebound double-double with seven steals and six assists in win over Kent-Meridian.
