Winner of The News Tribune’s Girls Athlete of the Week (Jan. 13 to 18)
Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s Girls Athlete of the Week for contests played between Jan. 13-18. Thanks to everyone who voted and supported local student-athletes.
This week’s winner is:
Bailey Andersen, Eatonville basketball
The senior guard broke the Cruisers’ all-time girls basketball career scoring record (1,262 points) in Friday’s 56-16 win over Orting. Andersen finished with 16 points and broke a 24-year-old record set by Liz Clark in 2001.

Kawehi Borden, Sumner basketball — Sophomore guard dropped game-high 18 points with five rebounds in win over Lincoln, then had 16 points and six steals in win over Yelm.
Shayla Cordis, North Thurston basketball — Junior dropped game-high 23 points in road win at Bellarmine Prep.
Kyla Frazier, Bellarmine Prep basketball — Sophomore forward dropped 24 points with eight steals and six assists in win over Lakes, then had 22 points and eight rebounds in loss to North Thurston.
Abby Mesler, Sound Christian basketball — Junior guard had 21 points (8-16 FG) with four steals, four assists and four rebounds in win over Quilcene.
Mia Nielsen, Capital basketball — Senior shooting guard dropped 36 points (12-45 FG) with five rebounds and four steals (zero turnovers) in win over Mount Tahoma.
Soraya Ogaldez, North Thurston basketball — Senior guard dropped back-to-back 30-point games in wins over Lakes and Central Kitsap averaging 30 points, six steals and five assists. Rams pushed their win streak to 13.
Samara Oliver, Lakes basketball — Senior guard dropped 32 points with six rebounds and three steals in loss to Bellarmine Prep.
Grace Richardson, Peninsula basketball — Senior guard erupted for triple-double in crosstown rivalry win over Gig Harbor (11 PTS, 17 REB, 13 AST) with four steals and four blocks, then dropped team-highs in points (13) and rebounds (12) in win over Central Kitsap.
Brandi Stanford, River Ridge basketball — Junior guard posted 21-point, 10-assist double-double in win over Lincoln, then had game-high 28 points with six steals and six rebounds in win over Gig Harbor.
