DID YOU KNOW?

Only 22 total wrestlers in state history have captured four individual state titles at the Mat Classic, but five more can add their names to the record books this weekend: Quentin Harding (Orting), AJ Salguero Jr. (Orting), Kiyanno Zuniga (Toppenish), Libby Roberts (University girls), and Faith Tarrant (Prairie girls).

We’re in for a head-to-head clash for the 2A team title between heavyweight programs in Orting and Toppenish. The defending 1A-champion Wildcats rose to 2A last fall, meaning this weekend should answer the question: Who’s got the top program in the state? The programs met in Orting on Dec. 27 for the first dual meet between the longtime rivals, and the Cardinals prevailed by a razor-thin margin, 33-32. Orting brings 24 wrestlers and Toppenish brings 17 wrestlers to Tacoma for a rematch on the biggest stage.

Orting (2A) can win four consecutive team titles for the first time since the Cardinals completed the feat as a 1A program from 2009-12.
