South Sound hoops: state tournament regional scores

The state high school basketball tournament regional round is taking place across Washington on Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1. Here are final scores involving South Sound teams.

BOYS BASKETBALL

FRIDAY

CLASS 4A

No. 13 Emerald Ridge 70, No. 12 Lake Washington 57

CLASS 3A

No. 10 Monroe 62, No. 15 Gig Harbor 33

CLASS 2A

No. 12 Franklin Pierce 47, No. 13 Bainbridge 41: Javon Barbee led the Cardinals with 29 points, 15 rebounds and six steals. Barbee is now Franklin Pierce’s all-time career leading scorer with 1,713 points.

SATURDAY

CLASS 4A

No. 14 Arlington 57, No. 11 Kentwood 56: Kentwood’s Corey Tita tied the game with 1.7 seconds remaining, but a foul sent Arlington’s Leyton Martin to the line for the game-winning free throws for the Eagles.

No. 10 Olympia 54, No. 15 North Creek 43: Julian Zapata scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the second half, while 6-foot-6 sophomore forward Brian Stevenson added 14 for the Bears.

No. 1 Gonzaga Prep 56, No. 8 Puyallup 54: Drew Jones scored 14 of his game-high 17 points in the second half for visiting Puyallup, while junior forward Will Nasinec added 16. Hudson Floyd led Gonzaga Prep with 16 points.

No. 7 Mount Si 56, No. 2 Auburn 50: Auburn watched an early lead fade away against the Wildcats. Daniel Johnson scored 17 points in the loss for Auburn. Brady Hennig and Drenden Knaevelsrud scored 16 each for Mount Si.

CLASS 3A

No. 8 Bellarmine Prep 59, No. 1 Rainier Beach 57

No. 14 Federal Way 49, No. 11 Auburn Mountainview 41

No. 3 Garfield 70, No. 6 Lincoln 57

CLASS 1A

No. 1 Annie Wright 62, No. 8 The Bear Creek School 37: Martin Kaupanger scored a game-high 22 , while Reggie Lester added 16 for the 1A state tournament favorite Gators, who are looking to bring some hardware back across the mountains to Tacoma.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

FRIDAY

CLASS 4A

No. 3 Chiawana 67, No. 6 Auburn 51: Keleesa Howard led the Trojans with 25 points and eight rebounds, but Chiawana distanced itself in the seocnd half.

CLASS 2A

No. 11 Eatonville 55, No. 14 Ridgefield 51

CLASS 1A

No. 4 King’s 59, No. 5 Annie Wright 37

SATURDAY

CLASS 4A

No. 13 Glacier Peak 52, No. 12 Emerald Ridge 43

No. 8 Sumner 67, No. 1 Davis 62: Sumner overcame a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Olivia Collins scored seven of her team-high 22 points in the final minute and a half of the game.

No. 11 Redmond 61, No. 14 Kennedy Catholic 53

CLASS 3A

No. 2 North Thurston 59, No. 7 Kennewick 52: That’s 27 wins in a row for the Rams. Shayla Cordis scored a game-high 19 points and guard Grace Lee added 17.

No. 6 Lakeside 59, No. 3 White River 38: Willa Chinn dropped 10 of her game-high 18 points in the first quarter in Lakeside’s lopsided win over White River.

No. 12 Eastside Catholic 60, No. 13 Bellarmine Prep 42
