North Thurston wins 28th straight, semifinal bound after comeback against Bellevue

North Thurston won its 28th consecutive game, beating Bellevue thanks to a 16-2 run in the second half.

North Thurston (28-1) found itself behind at halftime and for almost the entire third quarter thanks to a 23-3 run by the Wolverines (23-7). The run started in the second quarter with Bellevue scoring the final 14 points of the half and extended into the third quarter.

“We were just nervous,” senior guard Soraya Ogaldez said. “We had a good talk in the locker room to settle our nerves and go out and play our game like we know we’re supposed to.”

The Rams clawed their way back late in the third quarter. They took the lead when Ogaldez banked in a three from 30 feet to beat the third quarter buzzer.

“We just needed a bucket,” Ogaldez said. “I just had to step up and do my part for us to pull out with that win.”

They would never trail again.

Ogaldez led all scorers with 29 points, 21 of which came after halftime. Junior Shayla Corliss added 20.

“If she’s hot I give it to her. If I’m hot she gives it to me,” Ogaldez said. “She’s a great player, and I love playing with her. I’m glad she came to my team.”

Shayla’s sister, junior Sierra Cordis, added nine points. The sisters and Ogaldez combined for 58 of the Rams’ 63 points.

Sophomore Trinity Palmer-Wilson led Bellevue with 21 points.

The Rams will face No. 6 Lakeside (24-4) at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. Bellevue will face No. 5 Seattle Prep (21-9) at 10:30 a.m. in a loser-out game.
