UW lands commitment from WA’s meanest pass rusher, Kennedy’s Colman-Brusa
A wrecking ball is coming to Montlake. Kennedy Catholic (Burien) defensive end Derek Colman-Brusa, one of the state’s most disruptive pass rushers and defensive lineman, announced his commitment to Jedd Fisch’s Washington Huskies in a post on X on Sunday night.
Colman-Brusa was a TNT All-Area and all-state selection in 2024 after being named the 4A NPSL’s player of the year. He racked up 68 tackles, including 25 tackles for loss, with a dozen sacks and five forced fumbles in the 2024 season.
He’ll re-join his older brother Lowen Colman-Brusa (also a lineman) at UW. Derek Colman-Brusa is considered a four-star recruit and the No. 1 high school football player in the state of Washington in the 2026 class by 247sports.com.
Colman-Brusa’s commitment is a major in-state win for Fisch and Washington, which are looking to contend in the Big Ten after a rebuilding season in 2024. Colman-Brusa held 17 offers and chose Washington over Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon and others. Schools were enamored with Colman-Brusa’s workrate, raw strength and explosiveness.
“It’s the whole package,” Kennedy Catholic coach Pat Jones told The News Tribune in February. “It’s an intensity, speed off the football, colleges really like his get-off. He has a motor.”
247sports.com national recruiting editor Brandon Huffman gave a glowing review.
““The guy’s motor is relentless,” Huffman told The News Tribune. “He’s the most explosive pure pass rusher in the state since (former Eastside Catholic and Ohio State defensive end) J.T. Tuimoloau. … His rush is so quick. It doesn’t matter how quick you are as a tackle, he’s quicker than you. He’s going to be an absolute nightmare as a pass rusher.”
