SEMIFINALS

SUMNER 4, EMERALD RIDGE 2

Jake Miller’s sixth-inning, three-run home run completed Sumner’s late rally over Emerald Ridge, 4-2, pushing the Spartans into Wednesday’s 4A SPSL championship game.

Xander Cypher doubled and Bryce Carl walked before Miller’s game-changing homer to right field that turned Tuesday’s tournament semifinal upside down. The sophomore left fielder reached in all three plate appearances, finishing 1-for-1 with two walks and three RBI.

Spartans starter Wyatt Plyler surrendered nine hits but navigated traffic through 5-⅔ frames, allowing two earned runs with two walks and five strikeouts.

Emerald Ridge drew first blood in the second inning when Zach Humphreys’ RBI single scored Octavian Wells.

Sumner’s Elijah Prunty scored Anthony Neal with a game-tying, RBI single in the fifth.

Jaguars first baseman Ben Rambo added Emerald Ridge’s second run with a sixth-inning, RBI single that reclaimed the lead before Miller’s homer.

No. 2 Sumner meets No. 1 Puyallup in Wednesday night’s 4A SPSL championship at Heritage Park in Puyallup. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. All four semifinalists have already clinched district berths.

PUYALLUP 11, CURTIS 0

Standout pitching prospect Mason Pike threw five scoreless innings, Riley Sanoy drove in four runs, and Puyallup blanked Curtis in Tuesday’s 4A SPSL semifinals.

Puyallup erupted for six runs in the fourth inning and cruised behind Pike, a senior right-hander whose mid-90s fastball and elite pitch mix could net a seven-figure payday in the MLB Draft this summer.

Sanoy delivered a two-run single in the fourth inning and walked off Curtis with a two-run double in the fifth that pushed Puyallup over the 10-run limit. The center fielder finished 2-for-4 with a run, walk, and four RBI.

Pike permitted two hits and three walks across a five-inning complete game. He struck out nine.

Puyallup meets rival-Sumner in Wednesday’s 4A SPSL championship at Heritage Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
