GRAHAM-KAPOWSIN 48, STADIUM 12

Eagles quarterback AJ Tuivaiave threw five touchdown passes and Graham-Kapowsin cruised past Stadium, clinching a 4A state berth.

The 6-foot-4 sophomore missed three games with a foot injury earlier this fall but has since returned to form — completing 18-of-22 passes for 354 yards without a turnover Saturday night. He was comfortable in the pocket and on-time with his reads, finding receivers in stride on a chilly night at Art Crate Field.

“I think he played one of his best football games of the year,” Eagles head coach Jeff Logan said of his quarterback. “(AJ) playing the way he does gives us a really good shot against anybody.”

Eagles receiver Kase Betz posted season-highs in receptions (9) and receiving yards (215), securing two of Tuivaiave’s five touchdowns. The three-star recruit’s rapport with his quarterback is trending upward with the 2026 season still to come.

“Kase is one of those kids (that) doesn’t say a lot,” Logan said. “He just knows what it takes from a work-ethic standpoint. You can rely on him and you can count on him to be there.”

Eagles RB Randy Reyes scored from one yard for the game’s opening touchdown less than two minutes into regulation. The 5-foot-9 junior handled a team-high 13 carries for 89 yards and the score, assuming the lead role when Blake Pearson exited in the second quarter with a low calf injury. Logan said Pearson could have returned, but the Eagles chose caution with state playoff games on the horizon.

Tuivaiave then found Betz (nine yards) and Quinncey Ratteray (26) for touchdowns, part of a 21-point first quarter.

Stadium’s Milo Edwards scored from one yard in the final minutes of the first half, but Tuivaiave stole momentum. With three seconds on the scoreboard, he delivered a 30-yard touchdown strike to receiver Jayce Halasz — taking Stadium’s points right back.

“As a staff and as a program, we’ve changed our mindset about taking the football to open football games, and so that inevitably means that we’re going to kick off at the second half every time,” Logan said. “It was important for us to go down and get points knowing that Stadium was going to get the football back.”

Tuivaiave again found Ratteray (two yards) and Betz (34) for touchdowns in the second half. Eagles QB Kolton Wadley entered in the fourth quarter and found receiver Dustyn Myers for an eight-yard touchdown, completing 3-of-4 passes for 29 yards.

Stadium QB Kooper Tasler delivered a 10-yard touchdown pass to Diego Cabrera in the final minutes.

Graham-Kapowsin (9-1) is all but guaranteed to host an opening-round state playoff game next weekend at Art Crate. The 4A tournament’s first-round pairings are announced Sunday.

ORTING 56, EAST VALLEY of SPOKANE 0

The Cardinals opened the postseason Saturday with a resounding victory against the visiting Knights from Spokane.

Orting (10-0), which won the 2A SPSL title, racked up 425 yards offensively, including 308 on the ground. The Cardinals defense allowed just 161 yards total, forced three turnovers and recorded five sacks.

“It seemed like we outmatched them physically up front,” Orting coach Cody Baskett said. “We had a good week preparing for them and it’s nice to be able to just go out there and have our guys execute what we are practicing all week.”

Carson McCall rushed 12 times for 140 yards and four touchdowns, while Shiron Seniours had 80 yards on the ground and a touchdown and Israel Shrode eclipsed 100 yards. Kyle Curtis was 6-of-8 for 117 yards passing.

Brady Whitaker, Giovanni Eddinger and Urijah Satiacum-Codrington each recovered fumbles, while Max Dickson had 12 tackles to lead the defense.

“It was a chance to get reps and making sure everyone is doing the correct assignment on each play – just tightening things up,” Baskett said. “We feel confident and we are playing together.”

The Cardinals will find out Sunday who they play in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs. East Valley (5-5), which finished second in the Greater Spokane League in the regular season, saw its season come to an end with the loss.

STEILACOOM 38, EPHRATA 14

For the first time since 2021, the Sentinels are headed to the Class 2A state playoffs, thanks to their victory Saturday against the visiting Tigers.

Titus Kaeka threw for four touchdowns and Noah Maxwell had a rushing and a receiving touchdown to lead Steilacoom (8-2) to the Round of 32 victory.

“We finally got this Week 10 hurdle off our back again and it felt good,” Steilacoom coach Kyle Haller said. “We felt good about the matchup and had a good gameplan based off of what we had seen.”

The last three seasons, Steilacoom has lost to Fife in the final regular season game and then gone on the road and lost a Round of 32 game (at Prosser in 2024, at Highline in 2023, at Washington in 2022).

This year, though, the Sentinels defeated Fife 40-14 Week 9 and then got that elusive Round of 32 win in Week 10.

“Last week we told them it was a big game for seeding purposes and we kind of echoed the same thing this week,” Haller said. “We’ve been here the last three years and haven’t been able to get over the hurdle. They stayed focused and locked in and stepped up and came through.”

Ephrata scored late in the first half to pull within 17-7 going into the break, but the Sentinels scored on their first possession out of halftime to blow the game open.

Maxwell took a short pass from Kaeka to the house for a 64-yard touchdown reception.

“We had a play dialed up that we felt good about,” Haller said. “We were debating using it at the end of the first half or to start the second half. We told our QB if it isn’t there, just throw it out of bounds and he put a touch pass perfectly over the linebacker’s hands and Noah is just fast. He took off and it was a big momentum swing.”

Kaeka finished 17-of-30 for 204 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. Maxwell rushed 15 times for 126 yards and a touchdown and had four receptions for 105 yards and the score.

Jaleo Johnson had six receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns, while Xander Shaw added four catches for 48 yards and a score.

The Sentinels will find out Sunday who they will play in the first round of the state playoffs. Ephrata (6-4), which finished fourth in the Central Washington Athletic Conference, had its season come to an end with the loss.

SEDRO-WOOLLEY 14, GIG HARBOR 7

The Tides took the undefeated Cubs to the wire on the road Saturday but couldn’t quite finish the job in a Class 3A Round of 32 matchup.

Gig Harbor (5-4), which finished third in the PSL Narrows division during the regular season, played the Wesco champs as tough as anyone did. Sedro-Woolley came in averaging 31.7 points per game and were held to a season-low in points Saturday.

“It was very typical of what we have done all year,” Gig Harbor coach Jeff Scoma said. “We believe if we play our game, we can compete. That was the case today, but we just couldn’t get over the top.”

Trailing 14-0 in the third quarter, Max Schwab completed a toss pass to Camden Archer on a trick play to pull within 14-7.

In the fourth quarter, though, the Tides had a fumble and an interception in the end zone. Overall, though, Scoma is happy with the game and the season.

“When you have a new coach and a certain level of adversity, it is easy for things to go in one direction,” Scoma said. “I would say I am proud of our kids and our coaches and our program. We rallied and improved throughout the year, made the playoffs and took an undefeated team to the buzzer.”

Sedro-Woolley (10-0) advances to the Class 3A State Playoffs with the win.
