High school volleyball: The News Tribune’s 2025 All-Area team

First- and second-team selections for The News Tribune’s 2025 All-Area volleyball team.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Addy Conner, North Thurston, sr. — The dominant, 6-foot-2 outside hitter was as clutch as she was consistent, piling 534 kills, 190 digs, 28 blocks and 24 aces that powered No. 1 North Thurston to the 3A state title in Yakima. The 3A PSL Nisqually co-MVP and Cal Poly beach volleyball commit was named 3A State Tournament MVP.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Jackie Meyer, North Thurston — Guided the Rams to the 3A state title in Yakima, the first championship in any girls sport in school history. No. 1 North Thurston (28-1) swept No. 2 Mount Spokane for the first-place trophy, dropping a single tournament set in four matches.

OUTSIDE HITTERS

Tove Hugus, Tumwater, sr. — The 2A Evergreen MVP and “heartbeat” of the T-Birds carried Tumwater into the 2A quarterfinals, totaling 294 kills and 286 digs. “She did a great job at buying in and creating our own team culture,” head coach Kennedy Croft said. “She grew into a composed and steady leader and owned being our go-to girl.”

Charlie Leipheimer, Tahoma, sr. — First-team 4A NPSL selection was a steady presence in Maple Valley, appearing in all 26 matches this fall. Tahoma’s primary receiver piled 361 kills and 312 digs with 54 aces.

Selana Morales, Curtis, sr. — The 4A SPSL’s offensive MVP proved one of the most-feared hitters in the South Sound and led the defending 4A-champion Vikings back into the title game. Posted 290 kills and 51 blocks.

Kinley Smith, Timberline, jr. — The South Sound’s leader in kills (577) was an all-around force for the state-tournament Blazers with a blend of power and finesse. Smith posted 10+ kills in 34 of Timberline’s 38 matches this fall with 81 total aces, 50 blocks, and 359 digs (3.3/set). 3A PSL Nisqually Defensive Player of the Year.

Jenica Walling, Cascade Christian, sr. — The 1A Nisqually MVP racked up 483 kills and 313 digs for Cascade Christian’s state-tournament team. Cal State Bakersfield volleyball commit added 54 aces and 36 blocks.

MIDDLE BLOCKERS

Marley Alefaio, Lakes, sr. — The state’s leader in blocks (197) was a nightmare at the net and unstoppable defensive force for Lakewood’s Lady Lancers. The 3A PSL Nisqually’s co-MVP added 226 kills, 206 digs and 38 aces that pushed Lakes into the 3A quarterfinals.

Kayla Baker, Curtis, jr. — 4A SPSL first-team selection was an explosive weapon in University Place, piling 290 kills and 55 blocks for the 4A runner-up Vikings. One rival coach: “Relentless power and intensity.”

Sienna Hanson, Puyallup, sr. — 4A SPSL first-team selection led a deep league in blocks (111) and lifted the Vikings into the 4A quarterfinals. Two-time TNT All-Area pick added 208 kills and 47 digs.

Addison Wilson, Olympia, sr. — The 4A SPSL’s leader in kills (332) was equally dangerous on defense, adding 64 blocks as the all-around standout from the state’s capital. 4A SPSL first-team selection.

LIBEROS

Elaina Duong, Curtis, jr. — Among the state’s best at turning would-be aces into lengthy rallies, the 4A SPSL’s best libero posted 407 digs, 107 assists and 37 serving aces for Curtis’ 4A runner-up team. 2025 WSVCA All-State Tournament pick and two-time TNT All-Area selection.

Jovie Lind, Timberline, jr. — The state’s leader in digs (474) paved the way for outside hitters Kinley Smith and Destiny Mars, arguably the area’s best one-two punch. 3A PSL Nisqually first-teamer added 65 aces.

SETTERS

Kathryn Harris, Curtis, jr. — In the conversation for the area’s most-versatile player, the 4A SPSL first-team selection put volleyballs on silver platters for Curtis hitters Selana Morales and Kayla Baker. Posted 883 assists, 333 digs, 114 kills and 57 aces for the Vikings’ state runner-up team.

Louden Leia, Washington, sr. — The 2A SPSL MVP excelled everywhere for the Patriots this fall, a steady force for the league champions from South Tacoma. Leia tallied 269 digs, 168 kills, 96 blocks and 52 aces, powering the Patriots into the state tournament. 2024 TNT All-Area second-teamer.

Olivia Puttler, Emerald Ridge, jr. — The 4A SPSL first-team selection’s 260 digs, 100 kills and 60 aces lifted Emerald Ridge into the state tournament. Tacoma Athletic Commission Volleyball Athlete of the Year.

Elliana Smith, Central Kitsap, jr. — The 3A PSL Narrows MVP led Central Kitsap’s charge into the state quarterfinals with 435 assists, 161 digs and 35 aces. Kitsap Sun 2025 volleyball player of the year.
